With all the money the team earns 8 million isn't a lot.
lots of top college coaches stank in the NFL so frankly that means nothingAnd Deion actually has proven that he can coach as a head coach, which Garrett did not have to do (unless we count him taking over when Phillips was fired). Don't know if Sanders can coach on this level, but no reason for anyone to pretend that he hasn't been a good college coach. I'll be fine if we go a different direction, but I also would be OK with giving him a chance.
Of course, I didn't want McCarthy back because he got his five years to produce a winner. So I'm pretty much OK with giving anyone a shot, knowing that he has little chance of succeeding because of the front office.
True, and a few have succeeded. So essentially, we don't know how he'd do. The chances of him doing much more than the guys who came before him are not high because he'd have the same GM they did, but I see no reason to complain about him as a candidate when he has been successful in his stops.lots of top college coaches stank in the NFL so frankly that means nothing
Jerry's goal isn't the Super Bowl, it's promotion of the brand. Courting, and eventually hiring, Deion can do nothing but escalate the value of that.not if jerry thinks he could get him a super bowl.
This is actually an obstacle. Jerry would have to pay that buyout to get Deion. He won’t even pay that much for a head coach. In a league with no cap on what you can spend on a HC, Jerry is notoriously cheap.hard to stand in the way of someone going to NFL as HC
The Limper will be worse than the Clapper?Sanders will be worse than The Clapper
Great points.......................Jerry could make back that $8 mill selling "Coach Prime" t-shirts in the gift shop. Here's the thing with Deion. Jerral is a marketing guy first. He's going to look at how much money he will make with big ticket Coach Prime on the sideline. It's reasonable to say TV ratings and merchandise sales would spike, at least in the first two or three years regardless of the performance on the field.
JJ subscribes to the Elvis mentality of "all publicity is good publicity". Bringing in a polarizing figure will have people tuning in to see the product. You'll see new viewers that are curious to see the circus. You have the long term fanbase, us, that wants to see the team succeed. You'll have the haters that want to see the team fail....but then you add in the Coach Prime fans and haters, and there are many. When you add ot all together, is an $8m buyout really an obstacle? It's likely that Jerry Jones is considering whether the added publicity and viewers would offset the buyout, as well whatever contract numbers Deion is looking for. If he succeeds, and I do think he can, any sort of long term relationship is a massive win for the Jones clan.
This is a move that could pay for itself, and Jerry Jones knows it. It's definitely something to keep an eye on.
I said in another thread......multiply the attention/publicity the Cowboys get x 10 with Deion on the sideline. I have already rec'd 5 text messages from relatives asking if it is true. Mind you, these are casual NFL fans for other teams ( three females I have not talked to in over a year). This is a move that could pay for itself, and Jerry Jones knows it. He won't have to pay it alone ........he pays half and Deion pays the other half via contract. Bob if these two wanna marry bad enough, $8m is just a drop in the bucket. Keep in mind also.......nothing will shift the negative criticism of Jerry like hiring Deion. This is actually an obstacle. Jerry would have to pay that buyout to get Deion. He won’t even pay that much for a head coach. In a league with no cap on what you can spend on a HC, Jerry is notoriously cheap.
That's a light buyout. Not really any story here.
Let's put it this way. A 1% annual increase in revenue would equate to about $12 million, so there's your buyout and then some. We've seen an upward trend of roughly $60m/year over the last ten season, to include a big dip in 2020 due to the Vid. Those years consist of Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy standing on the sidelines....meaning no additional revenue from merchandise, and fairly tame interraction with the media. The Cowboys are going to make money regardless, but think about having a highly unique, hall of famer, marketable personality on the sideline and in press conferences making headlines every week.Great points.......................Jerry could make back that $8 mill selling "Coach Prime" t-shirts in the gift shop.
Like you said, Jerry is the king of marketing. Hell, there is even a Victoria Secret at ATT Stadium selling the "official panties of the Dallas Cowboys"
You hit the nail on the head, Jerry Jones is mainly interested in the cowboys being the most valuable franchise and Jerry using the media to get the glory, praise, for instance when cowboys got demolished by Packers, if I was the owner I would be livid at the coaches, heads would rollJerry's goal isn't the Super Bowl, it's promotion of the brand. Courting, and eventually hiring, Deion can do nothing but escalate the value of that.
Would you rather win a random Super Bowl, or perennially be the most valuable sports franchise on the planet? Fans pine for the former. But Jerry the Businessman has consistently answered that question in spades.
It's starting to gain some real traction. Michael Irvin hinted at it at the Tyson fight sitting next to JJ, and Jerral was quick to change the subject, as opposed to squashing it. Maybe it would signify the return of wildcatter JJ, and I think that's what most of the fanbase wants to see, after over a decade of highly conservative, low risk, minimal reward decisions. Beats the heck out of bringing in Kellen Moore and continuing Garrett's legacy.I said in another thread......multiply the attention/publicity the Cowboys get x 10 with Deion on the sideline. I don't think it would be a big deal either but given how cheap Jerry has been the last couple of years, he would likely try to pay Deion $8 million less than he wants to cover it rather than treating it as an additional fee. That's a light buyout. Not really any story here.
I think this would be a stupid move but it isn't about the buyout. 8 million is nothing -- doesn't count against the cap and Jerry is just playing with house money.
Think Clapper meets dancing with the stars.Sanders will be worse than The Clapper
