I do not see Gore or Peterson catching Emmitt.

Based on their average total yards over the last 3 seasons, they'd each need to play about another 4 years. There's no shot.

With the current trajectory of the NFL, nobody's going to touch Emmitt.

Hell if he even comes close he will be in the Hall of Fame - then again he probably will go into the Hall just for trucking that Steelers player.

The thing to remember about Emmitt is he stayed on the field game in game out.

The extra game a year does help him a little bit. But I don't think he has a realistic shot. He has to make a team first and then be a prominent role in the offense to get the carries he needs. What team is going to feature a old RB like him?

The only one who is amazed still is himself. He was great but anyone who watched Detroit last year could tell he wasn't the best back in that backfield. Patricia deserved to get fired for feeding him the ball as much as he did.

the issue is he's going to be 36 this year and no team is going to sign him to be their feature back......i think Peterson can still tote the rock 250 times a year but he can't catch the record getting less than 12 carries a game which is around what he's going to get on a new team if that

The problem Peterson is going to have is that the 35+ year old body simply cannot recover from an NFL game fast enough for him to be effective anymore. If he plays he's going to suck plain and simple. His game was heavily predicated on speed, quickness, power and explosiveness. 3 of the 4 of which he no longer has but for maybe the first 3-4 carries in a game. After that the muscles will be fatigued and unable to recover in game and he will not be able to generate any power and speed and he will suck. If he played the game the way Emmitt did he might have a shot.. but Frank Gore, who does play the game closer to the way Emmitt did, has a better chance of catching Emmitt than AP does.

Unless the sport changes drastically, Emmitt’s record will never be broken.

Two records that may stand forever are Emmitt’s career rushing record and Brady’s career playoff wins record.

Yes, because regardless of how badly they want it eventually teams are going to completely lose interest in them. It's already happening. Neither is a starter, and soon they won't have enough upside to be back ups either.

Jerry Rice's career receiving yards comes to mind as well.
