Del Rio's overall W-L record, 93-94, perfect for what Jones is looking for. Mediocre coach for a mediocre team.
The only way I would be on board for Del Rio is if he was allowed to bring in his own assistants. We know that won't happen in Dallas. Not sure about the assistant coaches contracts. That has an impact. The other thing about Del Rio is that he would need an all star offensive staff. He did have Dirk Koetter in Jacksonville. He will need some real support to salvage what there is with Prescott.

What’s this if we miss the playoffs? Look at our dumb FO trading your number 1 pick in a year they could be drafting top 3. Could have drafted the franchise QB. I am now convinnced that the Cooper trade had nothing to do with Dak. It was made with the hopes of an 8-8, 9-7 finish so he would have to fire Garrett...

We need a GM. We need to do as Oakland and trade for some picks and build this team right. I’d package Dak and Zeke for picks at this point.

I will say, I like what I saw from Cooper ... he gets good separation. But when Oakland is drafting top 3 with our pick will be annoying.

If this is true then im sorry garrett....im taking a losing season

Watching the team in its current state this is a 4-12 to 5-11 team at best.... We have put faith in 8-8 and 9-7 too long to keep on this trajectory.

Been a fan since the 60's so have seen it all from true despair to hope, then victory for Landry, Jimmy.... JG does not inspire that confidence in me......

That's what I think too. It was a last ditched attempt to save Garrett. Unfortunately all of us are going to have to suffer for it.

For the first time, I'm starting to believe he likely won't survive a losing season. The criticism is reaching an epic level nationally that could very well force Jerry's hand.

Who’s on the hot seat, halfway through the season?

Week Nine has ended, which means that all teams have played at least eight games. One of those teams already has fired its coach. History says at least several more will do the same.

So who’s in trouble with eight weeks left in the season?

In no particular order, here’s a list of the guys who currently could be learning in less than eight weeks that their services no longer will be needed.

Jason Garrett, Cowboys: There’s a growing belief in league circles that, if the Cowboys don’t make it to the playoffs, Garrett will be gone. The real question is whether owner Jerry Jones would hire an A-list, type-A replacement or another B-level coach who will gladly let Jones be the actual or perceived puppeteer

It's a good thing we have Atlanta and philly coming up. Let's get this party started.

3-7 here we come!

And just go from there.

Scared we may beat Washington as the tires may fully be off bout time we get to them.

Does a new HC get to pick his own staff? Will he have authority to fire linehan too and bring in a different playcaller? Can Dak learn a new system? Will they invest more than a late 4th round pick on another QB, maybe one who can throw a football?

Linehan might go before Garrett does, but there's no chance of him being here after.

If they're keeping Prescott for another year, I have to think that means that they will be looking for an offensive-minded head coach who they feel can give Prescott whatever best chance he has to succeed.

No worries, Washington just restocked their line with three guys off the street. That will be more than enough to beat us on Thanksgiving Day.

So what offensive genius will want to be tasked with fixing a damaged QB as his primary function?

the possibility of us making the playoffs is so remote as to be impossible. the next 5 game will crush us. so I hope the writers are right and garrett is gone. but linehan must go with him. we need a very offensive minded guy to take over the reigns. someone like Pederson, mcvay or shanahan. the titans oc would be my first choice.

A good question.

I have to wonder about Riley? And how great his NFL aspirations might be?

Here's the thing. Jones can afford to pay the next coach a lot of money, salary cap free. If he wants a big name bad enough, he can and will have to do just that. And any guy that can get that kind of coin can get an awful lot of clout in the process.

Jones isn't going to sign someone to a multi-year, huge money deal and then fire him after just a year or two.
Any head coach who's signed, if he gets a five-year deal, he's seeing four years of that at a minimum. For a guy like Riley, that could mean $40 million-plus, if Jones wants him badly enough.

And I don't know about you, but from a personnel standpoint, I don't think the Cowboys are bereft of talent, just lacking in coaches who actually know how to use it. So that alone might prove enticing enough for a potential head coach, to say nothing of the obvious high profile.

If you believe in yourself, and have the security I mentioned, I don't think it's too far-fetched to see the appeal.
