Parcells was bigger than Jerry, or at least about as big as you can get in the NFL. HIs teams performed like Garrett’s do.

I don't remember the team under Parcells looking lost and confused like we've seen under Garrett. Even under Campo, we looked bad due to an extreme lack of talent but not like a team that doesn't know what's it doing.

JJ should fire himself along with Garrett, but he ain't doin that. Best we can hope for is young blood with fresh ideas that can function with JJ. A tall order but it can happen. We know the Garrett JJ collaboration ain't working.

Please, no retreads. Let's get an infusion of new thinking and make us exciting again.

The fact you admit you’re a fan of him as coach of this team speaks volumes ...... you’re not too terribly hard to please or too demanding.

Not really, but I don’t particularly feel like repeating myself on the topic another time. It ought to be obvious that I can both think the team isn’t good enough and the issue isn’t necessarily coaching.

Maybe I’m more demanding than you are because I insist we address the actual problem before we fool ourselves into thinking motion and progress are the same things.

I was talking about records and playoff success more than appearances under Parcells. Either way, the results were pretty much the same.

Riley Riley Riley
If we want to talk about the getting Lincoln Riley in here there’s things going for you and against you. Going for you is LR may be emotionally swayed by growing up in Muleshoe and now having the chance to run the Cowboys. Also, Jerry will be as likely as any owner to give him a Gruden-like contract to take the job. LR is also losing a Heisman-level QB and likely has a big drop in talent at the position for next year. Reasons against: working in a dysfunctional system for Jerry, having plenty of other options including keeping your current job, not having a defined role in who gets to be on your team, and dealing with an unknown dynamic once Jerry steps away.

As a Sooner I hope LR stays far from this mess but if the money is big enough he may just have to bite.

I'm getting tired of coach after coach and player after player losing their jobs for Garrett. Linehan and Dak are the latest to be thrown under the bus for this guy. He is literally being paid to do nothing and gets credit when they win and shifts the blame to everyone else when they lose.

As long as his replacement isn't treated as Jerry's 'can do no wrong son', then I'm fine if the next coach still sucks as long as that coach can get fired in a reasonable time for not performing

Exactly right.

The absolute worst case scenario is that the next coach is worse (if that's even possible). But that next coach won't be an extended family member and will be judges on his actual merits. What a novel concept for a professional football team, eh? And if the next coach doesn't actually perform in his role, unlike our current burden, that coach will be replaced.

At the bare minimum, our team can get to the point of operating the way (most) every other NFL team does. Earn your keep.

For the first time, I'm starting to believe he likely won't survive a losing season. The criticism is reaching an epic level nationally that could very well force Jerry's hand.

Who’s on the hot seat, halfway through the season?

Week Nine has ended, which means that all teams have played at least eight games. One of those teams already has fired its coach. History says at least several more will do the same.

So who’s in trouble with eight weeks left in the season?

In no particular order, here’s a list of the guys who currently could be learning in less than eight weeks that their services no longer will be needed.

Jason Garrett, Cowboys: There’s a growing belief in league circles that, if the Cowboys don’t make it to the playoffs, Garrett will be gone. The real question is whether owner Jerry Jones would hire an A-list, type-A replacement or another B-level coach who will gladly let Jones be the actual or perceived puppeteer
I’m not sure why there’d be any question what level coach Jerry would pursue?

This false hope that Jerry is going to operate like the rest of the league is laughable.

The Dallas Cowboys are at a distinct disadvantage as a result of not being an an even playing field with the rest of the NFL.

Hawk Im beginning to believe this might be true but who do you see wanting to come in and be the Head Coach with the jones stating they are going to extend Dak? The only person I would think is Norv Turner he would be a Yes man for the Jones

If Dak is going to stay then Id like to see Garrett gone and let this ship sink with someone else.

The only two coaches with autonomy under the drunken razorback were Johnson and Parcells and we know what happened to them.
JJ will hire a sub, not an alpha and give them zero power. The fish rot from the head. I wouldn't even be shocked if JJ "fires" the clapping clown by promoting him to the FO in some major capacity.

The problem is that a new coach is going to be forced to take on what ever staff the Jones family still likes vs setting up his own staff. That’s going to limit who will want to come to Dallas.
