They might as well put in Quinn and take their lumps now.

They really should just put him in and ride it out. He gives them the best shot at winning and I think it says a terrible message to the rest of the team that they arent willing to play their best QB. I know it sounds nuts but as expensive as the #1 pick is to sign I would rather see Dallas get the 2nd or 3rd spot and next years draft.

ESPN radio sportscenter just said that the Browns are not just considering signing Ken Dorsey, but also starting him in their next game. That is crazy.

I want the #1 spot, because we could easily trade it to a team that desperately need QB help (and there are a few out there) so that they can draft Brian Brohm.

Quinn is not their best QB. While he no doubt does do alot of things better than anyone else they have on their roster. If you listen to Savage, he has said that Brady Quinn has a very small portion of the playbook right now.

Playing a rookie QB in itself greatly limits your ability to win games because of stupid rookie mistakes. But playing a rookie QB that only has a minimal portion of the playbook at his disposal is a guaranteed recipe for disaster.

I blame Joey Harrington. How can one person be so bad and remain employed repeatedly?

He's like Chutch, QCarter and Henson yet has a starting NFL gig.
Mind bloggling. (umm yea, gonna go ahead and copyright this errant typing expression, k thx)

BTW, I'll gladtly accept any pick int he top 5.

They are dancing in the streets over on brownsboard and dawgbones. Still calling for Quinn. I think they should wait till the game before the bye week (Miami) and then use it to let him absorb whatever playbook they feel he can run, then live with the results.

The arguments for putting him in immediately are predictable:
  • if mistakes will be made, let a rookie make them (too many posts to count)
  • why wait until week X, he'll still have no experience
  • he's the future, and the future is NOW
  • the other QBs on the squad are losers
This is the sound of desperate people. Add to that a reworked O-line and people wanting Krispy Kreme's (Crennel's) head on a platter and it makes for diabolical entertainment.
:lmao2:

Ken freakin' Dorsey?

Apparently, not only did Cleveland agree to give Dallas their first round draft pick in 2008, there was also an informal agreement that the Browns would do as much as possible to ensure that pick was #1 overall.

I am starting to wonder why anyone sees this as a bad move 1st thing 1st they are getting another draft pick for a guy that is not there future starter. They have Anderson who was almost neck and neck with Frye in the Preseason. He can be the cushion until Quinn is ready to start.

If they get anything for frye then why not move him; I am lost why anyone thinks they lost anything

Frye traded to Seattle; Dorsey signed

Jeff Walcoff, Staff Writer 09.11.2007

The Browns have tradedquarterback Charlie Frye to the Seattle Seahawks for a sixth-round draft choice, the team announced Tuesday.

To take his place, the club re-signed veteran quarterback Ken Dorsey.

"The trade is ultimately good for everyone involved because it gives us some clarity at the (quarterback) position and gives Charlie a fresh start somewhere else," general manager Phil Savage said.

"As an organization, we appreciate everything Charlie has done. He did everything he could do. He's been a good solider and we certainly don't wish him anything but the best of success. Charlie's a good person. He works hard and I think he'll do okay out there."

Frye's departure and the addition of Dorsey leaves Dorsey, Derek Anderson, and rookie Brady Quinn as the club's trio of quarterbacks. Anderson was named the club's new starting quarterback by Savage Tuesday.

As the deal became imminent, Savage said he spoke to Frye, who was "disappointed".

"When you get drafted in the third round and come to your hometown team you want it to turn out differently," Savage said. "I told him some of the things he's been through over the last two years-plus will serve him well because he's been through a lot more than a lot of other young quarterbacks."
A Willard, Ohio native and Akron University alum, Frye joined the Browns as a third-round pick in 2005 during Savage's first draft with the club. During the past two-plus seasons, he appeared in 21 games for the team including 19 starts.

Overall, Frye completed 354-of-567 passes for 3,490 yards with 14 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. In 2006, Frye started 13 games and completed 252-of-393 passes for 2,454 yards with 10 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Frye started three of the Browns' four preseason games in '07, as well as the season opener Sunday against the Steelers.
After completing 4-of-10 passes for 34 yards and an interception, Frye was removed from the game in the second quarter. The Browns lost, 34-7.

Savage said the team has explored trades involving Frye orAnderson throughout most of the offseason.

"From the moment we drafted Brady Quinn and (since), I have stayed in contact with a number of teams who have expressed interest in either Charlie or Derek," Savage said. "I have kept them abreast to the situation, feeling at some point we'd move one of those two players."

Dorsey originally came to the Browns during the '06 offseason and served as the club's third QB for most of the year. He was waived by the team on Sept. 1, 2007. Dorsey appeared in one game for the Browns in '06 and has played in 12 games, including 10 starts, during his NFL career with San Francisco and Cleveland.

Dorsey was largely considered the veteran tutor of Frye and Anderson in ‘06 and mentored Frye, Anderson, and Quinn during the '07 offseason.

"If we were going to make a move I felt like now was the time to do it," Savage said. "Ken Dorsey hadn't signed with anyone else and it seemed like if we could get Ken back and if we could have the possibility of moving Charlie, we should do it.
"Yesterday we fielded some calls and (made the deal)."
"I'd like to thank the Cleveland Browns for drafting me and giving me the opportunity to be a starting quarterback in the NFL," Frye said. "Having grown up in Willard, Ohio, it really was a dream come true for me to play for my hometown team."
"I am now looking forward to a fresh start and a new set of challenges.I have a great opportunity waiting for me in Seattle where I can learn from one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Matt Hasselbeck and a head coach who has a track record for grooming young quarterbacks in Mike Holmgren."

"I know the best of my career is still ahead of me."
