The Cowboys drafted a slot receiver when they already have a slot receiver. But rookie Ryan Switzer won’t simply be the backup to Cole Beasley.

“He’s a classic slot receiver,” offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said, via Machota. “He has a similar game [to Beasley], but he has his own things. We would really like those two guys to be able to complement each other and run real similar route trees. Certainly a huge bonus with him is his ability to be a returner in our special teams.”

I am really looking forward to seeing Cole and Ryan on the field at the same time. They will wreak havoc whether they are stacked or on opposite sides. Would love to see Switzer in the backfield a couple times a game as well.

It should be TWill but knowing JG and Linehan it'll probably be Zeke with the empty set.

I'll believe it when I see this coaching staff pull Witten off the field for more than 3 snaps in a game. Unlikely.

They may decide to use more empty sets on 3rd and longs next season.

Or they will sub in Switz for TWILL when they go "11".

If this guy is as good as everyone hopes, it puts a lot of pressure on the pass D. Most teams usually only have 1 CB adept at covering the slot. So either Beasley or Switz should be in a favorable matchup.

Didn't they say all these things or similar regarding Dunbar?

The Cowboys were using Dunbar like this back in 2015 (he was leading the team in catches through four weeks) and then he blew out his knee. He came back last year but wasn't quite 100 percent until later on. By then the offense was doing just fine without him and there was no sense in taking Zeke off the field.

Now I think the Cowboys are going to try and prolong Elliott's career; so I can see them lining up Switzer all over the field. He shows excellent vision as a return man, I think it would be awesome to see him get a few jet sweeps and perhaps regular carries out of the backfield. He can be like a combination of Cole Beasley and Darren Sproles.
