With the two Void years, if we dont resign him to an extension, next season, wont the CAP hit for 2024 rise from $59m to $94m? The decision has to be made in 2024, and whilst it's likely we extend, there is the option to post June cut him, which will save $36m to the 2024 figure (and a more manageable $25m in 2025 and $11m in 2026).

The problem is that because of the existing Void years, we dont get the Hurts kind of backdated CAP contract with the cheap years at the beginning and then escalating in time.......the hit's going to be fairly hard hit from the start.
$59 million for 2024. $36 million for 2025. That mess has already been made. The only question is whether or not you want to add to it.

I dont think that's how Void Years work. I may be wrong, but, if the contract ends (in this case after 2024) then the Void money is added onto that years CAP, so the remaining $36m gets added to the $59m.

I don’t think that’s right at all.

There will be an extension for sure. He’s the bank for Jerry and they evidently seem to think they need cap space. Dak’s only position of strength right now is that he can help them with the cap. Will hate the move and will know it’s just the business. What will drive me nuts is any talk from him or the check-writers about wanting to win a ring over everything else.

I am curious what number is floating around in his head because in my mind he never earned the $40 million on his current contract. Dak is a good QB with some serious flaws that limit his ability to carry the team. I don't care what other teams pay their QBs. My dad used to drill into my head, "if your friends jumped off the GW Bridge would you follow them?" You have to make the smart decisions for yourself. IMO the Giants overpaid Danny Dimes, the Eagles overpaid Hurts, and Baltimore overpaid Jackson. That doesn't mean Dallas has to overpay Dak, and I am sure he will be asking for that kind of money.

Prescott is in the driver's seat as long as they keep making the playoffs because they will not be drafting in the top 2/3 to draft a possible replacement.

He also works for an owner that would never be able to utter the word "rebuild" and start over with a rookie QB.

He is going to get more money and there are going to be pissed off posters here but this is happening.

I really don't think those that don't like Prescott as the DC QB realize how much in the minority they really are.

And for the owner, every one of those endorsement commercials is a promo for his team, he could not be happier.

After the turd he just laid against SF in last years divisional round and leading the NFL in INTs despite missing 5 games...............he should not be talking about extensions.
You could say that about the entire offense at SF. Hard for a QB to do his job when your RB cant get anymore than 30 yards on the ground.

Yet the week prior Dak went for 300 yards and 5 TD's in one of the greatest QB performances in playoff history.

The framework of his extension is probably somewhere within these numbers ........

Dak currently is the 10th highest AAV. This time next year he will likely be down to 13-14.

  1. Lamar
  2. Jalen
  3. Rodgers
  4. Wilson
  5. Kyler
  6. Watson
  7. Mahomes
  8. Allen
  9. Danny Dimes and Dak
I’m just wondering how all these people who think he should be making 25m would feel like f Jimmy G or Geno Smith was our QB because that’s what you get for 25m

Quarterback salaries are driven by the market, the position and the ever growing cap.

Results really don’t have much to do with it.

Dak Prescott: I trust my agent, Cowboys to get an extension done when it’s time

Posted by Charean Williams on May 3, 2023, 10:05 PM EDT

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said in February that the team has “a plan to ultimately extend” Prescott’s contract.

Prescott was asked Wednesday about an extension after recent deals for Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts, among other quarterbacks. Prescott’s $40 million annual average is tied for eighth among quarterbacks.
Unfortunately that is the reality of the CAP world , but he doesn’t deserve extension until he takes us to SB ( Atleast don’t lose the playoff games by his errors )
