Here is where my contract knowledge starts to get limited. Can the Cowboys do as heavy of a backloaded deal as Hurts has and still reap the benefits? Does the voidable money in Dak's existing deal just go away with a new contract? Or is that $25M in 2025 counting against the cap either way and still going to be an issue with the Cowboys adding players that season?
I'm in the same boat as you, but I believe they can push it as they see fit, and/or convert to bonus. In any event I'm fairly sure they can clear out a lot of space (at the expense of an impossibly terrible back-end)

With the elite contract he was able to secure for a mediocre inconsistent player, I Wouldn’t put it past him to fleece Jerry again
That's what drives me nuts. He was absurdly overpaid, but he knows he has no chance of being benched other than getting hurt. In that last game against Washington, he threw a boneheaded pass that should have been a pick 6, except that by sheer dumb luck, the Washington defender dropped it. Fans were like, "whewie, close call. Careful, Dak." Then on the very next play, he made the same boneheaded decision, but this time it was a pick 6. It was among the worst play I've ever seen by a Cowboys quarterback. I knew right then that we had no chance at winning a Lombardi. Dak should have been benched right there.

Dak Prescott: I trust my agent, Cowboys to get an extension done when it’s time

Posted by Charean Williams on May 3, 2023, 10:05 PM EDT

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said in February that the team has “a plan to ultimately extend” Prescott’s contract.

Prescott was asked Wednesday about an extension after recent deals for Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts, among other quarterbacks. Prescott’s $40 million annual average is tied for eighth among quarterbacks.
They need to extend him ASAP. He’s certainly earned it but the sooner they extend him the better it will be for the team.

OC was removed because they want to be more run heavy, but now they want to give the QB more money?

As much as he’s earned. If he wins the Super Bowl and has an MVP type season? Break the bank! If not, I want the option to draft a replacement next year and move on.
Dak's replacement should already be on this roster. It's not... so you start a rookie QB next year? This team is built to win this year.

My favorite phrase from the “Pro-Dak” crowd is “ who else can we put in? Or “Elite quarterbacks don’t grow on trees”

and to a large degree, these people are right. We don’t draft or FA sign any quarterback above 4th to7th round skill to contest or support the Qb position.

They are paying for it in spades and continue to neglect it……this latest draft has proven it for the 2023 season already.

Which are you talking about?

This year or next year?

Dak Haters where is your Champion?

Real Cowboy Fans aren't against bringing in viable competition at the QB position...

We just don't allow Dak Haters at the QB talent table.....Dak Haters don't have the intellectual band width to scout beyond "Eye-Test"

$51M/yr AAV, no tag, no trade, 2 year, maybe 3 year extension allowing for one last bite at the apple contract-wise.

This is what I expect France to negotiate.

How has he "certainly earned it"?

Please use examples and undeniable facts. Thank you in advance.

It looks like according to Spotrac, they’ll still have $13 million in cap space, even with his $60 million cap hit.

I’m not doing anything with his deal until he proves he’s worth it.
With the two Void years, if we dont resign him to an extension, next season, wont the CAP hit for 2024 rise from $59m to $94m? The decision has to be made in 2024, and whilst it's likely we extend, there is the option to post June cut him, which will save $36m to the 2024 figure (and a more manageable $25m in 2025 and $11m in 2026).

The problem is that because of the existing Void years, we dont get the Hurts kind of backdated CAP contract with the cheap years at the beginning and then escalating in time.......the hit's going to be fairly hard hit from the start.

Prescott is in the driver's seat as long as they keep making the playoffs because they will not be drafting in the top 2/3 to draft a possible replacement.

He also works for an owner that would never be able to utter the word "rebuild" and start over with a rookie QB.

He is going to get more money and there are going to be pissed off posters here but this is happening.

I really don't think those that don't like Prescott as the DC QB realize how much in the minority they really are.

And for the owner, every one of those endorsement commercials is a promo for his team, he could not be happier.
