All because Jerry Jones had visions of "Trey Lance to Jonathan Mingo" being the next in the line of "Staubach to Pearson" or "Aikman to Irvin".

One of the most baffling moves in franchise history, really. More baffling then when they took Steve Walsh in that supplemental draft after they had drafted Aikman first overall.

From what I read Jimmy Johnson was smitten with Steve Walsh.
