Giants safety Chad Jones, a third-round pick in the 2010 draft, has been injured in a car accident in New Orleans.

A member of the local media sent to us a photo of the vehicle. It's a frightening image.

Per WWL, Jones was alert when taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Two weeks ago, Jones signed his rookie deal with the Giants. He also was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers after playing both football and baseball at LSU, winning a national title in each sport.

We wish him a full and complete recovery.

Thats what you call all kinds of luck. Two national titles in two different sports, drafted, sign a pro deal, then a nasty car accident.

Wonder if something illegal was involved. (drinking ,etc)

That car is pretty dinged up, although not a lot can be taken from that...

Hope he's OK. Hope he wasn't driving....

Chad Jones, the third-round draft pick of the New York Giants, is in critical condition following a vehicle accident this morning in New Orleans.

The former LSU star was involved in a grisly wreck, according to WWL-TV, and suffered a fractured leg and had arteries and nerves exposes, per the report. He is in surgery.

The Giants added the two-sport star to their secondary with high hopes. He was also drafted by the Houston Astros in the Major League Baseball draft earlier this month.

“Just got news about Chad Jones' car accident,” LSU coach Les Miles said on his Twitter account. “We are praying for Chad and his family. Keep him in your prayers.”

We may all have some hatred towards other teams' players, but I never would wish for this for all my opponents. Hopefully he gets better and even moreso gets to keep his leg if the above report is true.

What a disappointment . . . you read he was "alert" at the scene, which I interpreted to mean he was cognizant and well, only to read a few posts down that he's in critical condition and might lose his leg.

God bless him.

NEW ORLEANS ― Chad Jones lost control of his SUV Monday morning and crashed into a streetcar pole, seriously injuring the former LSU football and baseball standout and injuring two others.

Jones, 21, suffered a fractured left leg and had arteries and nerves exposed, officials told WWL-TV’s Juan Kincaid, as he slammed into the pole on North Carrollton Avenue heading towards Canal Street.

The official also said doctors were attempting to get blood flowing back to Jones' foot. He was listed in critical condition and was in surgery at 10:15 a.m.

NOPD public information officer Shereese Harper said both passengers suffered minor injuries and weren’t taken to the hospital.

Through LSU, Jones' agent Rocky Arceneaux said, "Chad Jones was involved in a serious auto accident early this morning. The severity of Chad's injuries up to this point is unknown. At this point, we are praying for chad and ask that everyone does the same."

Jones’ father, Al Jones, told The Advocate of Baton Rouge that his son was alert after the accident.

The 6-foot-3, 231-pound New Orleans native, played in 40 games with the Tigers, starting 19 before forgoing his senior season.

Jones was drafted in the third round of April’s NFL Draft by the New York Giants and recently signed his rookie contract, a four-year deal worth a reported $2.616 million base salary over the life of the contract.

He attended St. Augustine in New Orleans until Katrina and finished high school at Southern Lab in Baton Rouge.

He earned national titles in football in 2007 and baseball in 2009. The Houston Astros picked him in the 13th-round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2007 and in the 50th-round of the 2010 MLB draft.

LSU Head Coach Les Miles tweeted a short time after learning about Jones' accident, saying, "Just got news about Chad Jones' car accident. We are praying for Chad and his family. Keep him in your prayers."

Jones finished his LSU career with 158 total tackles, including two sacks. He also had five interceptions.

He's remembered on the football field for his hit on Alabama's John Parker Wilson, causing a fumble that LSU recovered, ending the Crimson Tide's chances at an upset over the top-five ranked Tigers.

In 1.2 innings of relief in Game 3 of the College World Series in 2009, Jones didn't allow a run and struck out two as the Tigers went on to win the national championship.

Harper said Jones will be charged with careless operation of a vehicle.

*****

For LSU fans like me, this bites big time.

Umm, I think he has learned his lesson without the useless charge of careless operation of a vehicle.

His career is over before it started. :(

I had a coworker who had a bad wreck and the doctors saved her leg but it took years and a lot of surgeries just so she could walk again.
