What made Jerry great is now his undoing. His pride. At least many years ago he had boldness to make improvements, now he's just a prideful bumbling idiot. Sad.

Starting trey lance means giving up on the season. Jerry can't sell a failed season.
At least, not til after the Thanksgiving game lol. Then watch, Lance will be starting. But yeah, in the meantime he's selling the hell out of that next game next week.

In other words, Jerry saw enough of Lance in the pre-season. :omg:

"Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy regrets not giving Trey Lance some reps late in Monday night’s 34-10 loss to the Texans. But owner Jerry Jones has no desire to see Lance start a game for the Cowboys.

“I don’t know about that,” Jones said of Lance potentially starting. “I want to give our team the very best chance it can — in all phases — to be successful. So, we’re going to go here with the quarterback that gives us the best chance to win the game.”

Does he not want to see Lance because he can’t throw the football? Or he’s afraid if the light actually comes on?

If he plays well and someone signs him we get a comp pick in 2026. That’s the smart GM move
We don’t need a comp pick.

we need a QB.

It's already a failed season but Jerry being the deluded optimist is holding out hope the Cowboys can still turn it around. In all fairness this state of the Cowboys, overall, is the most injury riddled, this team has been in many decades. Save a few functional players, this team is full of inexperienced rookies and pedestrian re-threads. Nevertheless Jerry, Stephen, McClay, McCarthy, Zimmer and Schottenheimer should be held most accountable in that order. Jerry should replace himself at GM and his upper management and coaching staff with formidable football minds that also give 100% day in and day out. Either that or team sell out in the best interest of the devoted or diehard fans and also to rebuild the legacy of this once great franchise.

I actually think it’s smart.
Lance playing, and especially showing any flashes of competency, only hurts us. The current team is too bad for any QB to win games, so why start him?

We cannot trade him. If he shows any ability and enters free agency, we don’t want to bid for his services against other desperate teams. If he is garbage and they all know it, playing him is just stupid. If they still think he can be developed, then you don’t show him at all. He becomes a free agent, and you hope you can sign him to a modest backup contract to replace Rush Because no one else in the league wants to give him 5-10 million when they’ve never seen anything positive in him.

We aren’t going to make the playoffs. We probably only have 1-2 games left that we are capable of winning even if all goes perfectly, not with this defense and no playmakers on offense. His best chance of winning a game with no playmakers besides Lamb is by running, not passing, and all we get for that, if it happens, is a worse draft slot.

There is literally nothing that can help us by playing him. It could help him this offseason, but it can’t help us.
These thoughts have a rationale behind them that is consistently logical. However, Jerry doesn’t think this deep when it comes to building this roster. He doesn’t spend more than thimble full of energy strategizing about future plans beyond paying a star player he wants to keep and that’s rooted primarily in marketing, not team building. I take everything that bug-eyed Gollum says with the shallowness and superficial ambiguity in which he delivers it. He’s not thinking this deeply and never has when it comes to building out this team’s roster. I think he truly thinks Rush is better than Lance (he might be right in that) and since he’s the GM and owner that means he gets to tell the coach who to play. I think it’s that simple imo.

If Lance played well or got the experience to play well toward the end of the season, Jerry feels like he would look foolish after giving Dak that big contract.
82 year old Jerry is wrong. Lance could be trade bait or better, we don't know he's 23.

Play Lance and sell some tickets dummy
