Was it bad head coaching when Dez single-handedly gave away the Tampa game? Was it bad coaching when the defense gave away the Saints game in OT? Was it bad coaching when Cassel threw brain-dead picks against New York to lose that game? Was it bad coaching when the crappy Eagles offense scored all over Marinelli's defense and won in OT? Was it bad head coaching when Dallas gave away a late drive to lose to Seattle by one point?

It's not that plain and simple.

Bad luck and bad backup quarterback options doomed this season. The injuries to Dez and Romo, coupled with an unfortunate schedule during that time against high-quality quarterbacks, is the culprit. Playcalling and coaching decisions have played a minimal role.

Jerry disagrees

Fact is Garrett had never been considered a success at ANY level of coaching

The only reason he was hired here was because jerry wanted a coach he could "train" and jerry knew he could control Garrett because Garrett has no back bone

Here's the thing....

In a world of "what have you done for me lately"

Garrett has a golden... Ok maybe bronze opportunity here to right this ship with odds stacked high against him.

If I'm Garrett I don't sleep for the rest of the regular season.

I create 4-5 plays on offense and practice the heck outta them.
I study film and tendencies with 50,000 ft view. He needs to go "Belichick" here.... Sans cheating. Put that Princeton intellect to work!

He needs plays that work!
He needs to out coach his opponent.... NOW ... more than ever!

Oh joy, yet another coach can take the blame for Garrett. Such a shame the guy has such a problem finding good coaches to put around his greatness. I mean it can't possibly be in anyway on him right?

If we do any house cleaning it'll be interesting because I think most coaches will be smart enough to see Garrett's time is running out. Tough to leave a good situation for a one year gig. But as usual Jerry will be too late to make the move. Just like Wade. Wasted a season when we all knew where it was headed. And then wasted a few more years to promote Jason.

That is a lot of faith in a coach that hasn't even demonstrated an ability to make in game adjustments or attack weak spots in opposing defenses. And we will just ignore the fact motioning one of the best receivers in the game to create mismatches is a foreign concept.

Just line up and execute baby!

Look, I'm not trying to couch Garrett as the next Vince Lombardi. I'm saying he's as good as we can hope for as long as Jerry is here.

That is one of the most cynical, pessimistic, and negative things I have ever read in the Zone.

But it is insightful.

Are the so-called Optimists and Happy Fans simply deeply cynical pessimists who believe Garrett is the best we can do given the current organizational structure?

Are the critics and so-called negative fans actually the optimists who believe we could do better despite the organizational structure?

It's not a Garrett love agenda.

I just tire of this same discussion had by every fan base across the league all the time. Fire the coach, trade the QB, fire the OC, fire the DC, fire the GM. And on and on it goes.

Notice that the teams that win KEEP their head coaches in place, and those that don't draft in the top 10 every year.

Sorry, but when you are 4-9 and lose 7 in a row and watch the horror show of Jason Garrett and this team every week there isnt much else to talk about. Garrett was up to his usual tricks again this Sunday playing NOT to lose. Dink and dunk, avoiding Dez and too scared to throw it deep. Even when you are down by 21. And those 4 yards throws on 3rd and 5 are great. Now certainly some of this is the horrid Cassel. But you simply cant watch game after game of this conservative nonsense and not come to the conclusion that it is simply the way Garrett wants things done. And certainly having Weeden and Cassel has Clappys full support.

IF your tired of the Garrett bashing week after week then you should be wishing for him to get fired. Then you wont have to hear it anymore.

LOL........... teams that win keep their head coaches? Really?

HOLY $%$%# that's an incredible concept. If you coach wins, you keep him?

What do you do when you coach doesn't win?

Dez had five drops. Garrett doesn't predetermine where Cassel throws the ball. He doesn't tell Witten to run a nine-yard route on 3rd and 10. He doesn't tell La'el Collins to get confused on every stunt or twist his direction. He doesn't throw ducks for Cassel. In fact, Linehan is calling the plays, which nobody seems to even remember.

And I'm tiring of nothing. I don't expect much from what has become a supremely unknowledgeable Cowboy fan base.

Witten is a vet HOF TE know for running excellent routes, he is ALWAYS where he is supposed to be. Every QB he has played with says the same thing, best route running TE they've ever played with.

Who do you think determines where he is supposed to be?

Yet you are one of the only ones left that is still riding the Garrett bandwagon. And many of us knew how bad Garrett was many many years ago. Heck, you havent even figured that out yet. What does that say about your knowledge of football?

but ummmmmmmmmmmm............for my money, I pull Cassel aside and tell him to throw it deep. I also ask him why he is throwing the ball 5 yards when its 3rd and 9.

"Cassel, you need to throw the ball beyond the first down marker" See, what was so hard about that?

And you actually think that's what head coaches do? Should an NFL coach have to tell a professional NFL quarterback and hall of fame tight end this?

No, he shouldn't.

Jason Witten does. He knows to run his routes to the sticks, buddy.

No, he shouldn't.

So what does a head coach do exactly in your mind. Because you dont seem to think a head coach does anything. No matter what happens, its never Garretts fault. Does he do anything in your mind?

But in reality, its part of being a coach. And if I was the head coach watching Cassel play, that is exactly what I would do. Its what any coach would do. And you can bet they do those kinds of things all game long when needed. WR's are seen coming in all the time saying that they are wide open or suggesting a play they feel they can get over on the DB. Why would a head coach not be doing the same things? What is the head set for if not to talk with with your QB and your OC? What do you think he has that thing for?

Garrett a conservative coach. That is painfully obvious. And its also painful to watch. What do we have to lose at this point? Take some chances if you really want to win. Fake punt, anything. Its just not his style.

"take what the defense gives you" We heard it from Garrett for years. Dont you think he tells his QB's the same thing? Which is usually an underneath dump off route. Its what every defense gives you.

Bottom Line. Use the Tom Laundry Rule for routes on 3rd Down. All routes are MUST be run beyond the 1st Down Marker. If you do not run the route beyond the marker than the ball will not be thrown to you and you will be benched. Plain and Simple. The Inmates do not run the Asylum.
