PFT: Jerry Jones remains committed to Wade Phillips... per ESPN

In hindsight, I think that would have been an excellent move. Unfortunately, we'll have to watch him turnaround an underachieving Jets team.

That tough guy act of Ryans is not a long term recipe for success as a head coach in the NFL. His Dad did the same thing and was a complete failure as a head coach. Remember him calling the cowboys out in his first press conference as the Cardinals HC??

the tough guy act worked for jimmy johnson didnt it?
what matters is what parcells told jerry jones the first year he got there

parcells told jerry we need to win, jerry said sure we will. Parcells said, no Jerry you dont understand, i am a tough coach on my players, so for my system to work, we have to win at the start pretty quickly

then the players will buy into the system and the way i run the team

at same time, even players after jimmy johnson took his team to 2 superbowls, players were getting tired of his antics, but jimmy way got the cowboys to 2 superbowls, a conference championshp after that and a super bowl after that because the team was built

its like parcells and sparano said, they arent sneaking up onto teams this year with their wildcat option and surprising teams off of their losing year before sparano got there

when you get into the playoffs etc, strength of the schedule changes and you face tougher opponents

and teams have game film on you etc

I agree and did not feel as if Miami would repeat last seasons rise to the top.

The thing with Wade is that he better grow some, because this is his last chance to make his mark on the NFL. If he fails here, he is not going to sniff another head-caoching job ever again, and all the talk about his family tree will mean nothing.

thats what i was thinking, who would ever give him a chance again,
if he doenst get into the playoffs and win,
since wade has been with 3 teams and never won a playoff game

I don't think Wade will be back next year unless we win in the playoffs and his defense is a big reason why.

totally agree, but how in the world can jerry say he was the right defensive guy to run this team, when after first week wade had to fix the run defense because he didnt work blitz schemes enough in training camp, and now wade has to fix the pass defense, sounds like to me wade isnt doing his job

i go back to something bradie james and newman said best i remember after brian stewart was fired

they said, stewart wasnt the problem, that it ran deeper than that

now we know who the defensive coordinator is, and th ejob isnt being done is it?

I remember Buddy's "You've got a winner in town" speech all too well.

Buddy's problem was that he only wanted to deal with half a team - the defense. And that he essentially downgraded and ignored everything else. He was the classic example of a guy who reached his apex at the coordinator level.

It remains to be seen if Rex has that same stubbornness/ignorance.

Jerry has to show faith in his coach or the players will lose respect for Wade AND any potential defensive coordinators/coaches out there would be hesitant to work for an owner that publicly criticizes the coach after 2 weeks. Common sense joe.

As do all owners and GM's. You are not going to find a GM out there saying I don't have any faith in our coach and will be firing him when the season is over. Jerry is publicly supporting Wade and it is Wade job to get this team into the post season and do something once he gets there. If not then there is a good chance Wade will not remain as coach, but in the meantime Jerry is not going to bad mouth his coaching staff no one else in the league would either.

true i remember that too,
like i said, you have to learn from your mistakes or you keep doing them

like hostile posted the other day with what landry said;
when you win you teach, and when you lose you have to learn

something like that

i understand now, i see some of that now, but at the time when i first saw it, i saw totally red

ive calmed down now, excuse my ranting and raving

Yeah, but Jimmy wasnt calling out the opposing teams in Week 2 much less teams in the preseason. Color me skeptical on Ryan.

Holmgren?

C'mon. I'm tired of reaching for mediocre when we could have winners (or better coaches). With Gruden, cowher and Shanny out there why would we go for a Holmgren. Because of the great job he did in seattle?

Holmgren is for suckers.

It's time that we get a coach whose stature measures up to the most glamorous team in the universe and the $1.1 billion stadium he will inhabit.

The only way I see this happening is if the Cowboys go deep into the Playoffs.

Honestly, I think Wade Phillips has to get to the NFC Championship Game to keep his job.

My feelings exactly.

Anything short of the NFCCG means curtains for Wade.

so basically we blew the draft. I've been saying all along it was a wasted draft. this is the worst draft since 1995 or 2001.

When your best player from the draft is a kickoff specialist......

Yea, we blew the draft.

I had a tough time convincing people of just that back in April.

The kiss of death for a coach :laugh2:

Indeed. I don't care what anyone says. The fate of the Michelin Man rests on his management of every game from here on out... He should officially consider himself micro-managed.

**** Wade Phillips and **** Jerry Jones if Wade is still the HC after the bye

It really isn't taking long for Jerry and company to start taking this team back to the Campo years. Unreal how that incompetent fool can consistently tear down what someone else built.
