Maybe Jerry really is planning on going to battle with this whole thing. I wonder just how far and how ugly this is going to get.

From what I understand, he doesn't have a big following on this subject. Should be interesting, that's for sure.

WE know Jerry rules the room. I bet that coward Blank doesn;t show up. According to the ESPN article, it is 20 owners that are against/have concerns about Goodell.

I don't know about Jerry rules the room, he is hated by other owners, or he won't be sold like that by that crook.

I don't see how anyone can not agree with what Jones is saying.

Is there any question the NFL is having issues right now?

Does any owner think things are "fine"?

Disregard the other factors for why Jerry Jones might be leading the charge on this and focus instead on the message.

Any owner who thinks the same status quo should continue is one that should be charged with "conduct detrimental to the league", along with its Commissioner.

I really think the main factor some owners arent pushing Goodell out is they want him negotiating the next contract. After demolishing the players union last time around he is getting a pass on alot of his warts.

I think it's way simpler.

Their pockets have only grown fatter with Goodell at commissioner.

When it's time to negotiate the CBA, the NFL is just going to throw more money at them to convince them to sell their souls again and they will happily sign on the dotted line.

Thier pockets growing fatter is about equivalent to Switzer winning a superbowl.

The smarter owners have to see that Goodell is becoming a liability. Despite the money increases things have been sliding downhill the last two years. AND I really doubt that Goodell can get away with his tricks from the LAST CBA this time. So keeping him around to do the next CBA just does not look that smart. The near universal hatred he is inspiring has also got to figure in.

I am doubting he gets his extension now.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is no longer laughing about the possibility of being disciplined for conduct detrimental to the interests of the NFL.

Via Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal, the latest missive in the letter-writing campaign comes from Jones. The letter requests a special meeting of the owners to address the extension of Commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract.

Jerry, sit your ash down.
It won't end well for you this time, you hissy-fit throwing, geriatric drunk!
The NFL is bigger than you or your Arkansas new-money ego, you maroon!

Good questions you've presented and food for thought as to the condition of the league that the owners have allowed themselves to get into. The league and its owners are undoubtedly in a chaotic state these days. Far too many of them are clamoring to grab whatever advantages over the others in terms of raising their profit margins to become more competitive with the richest of their cohorts.

Many also appear indifferent to the dilemmas that some of the owners face, like Jerry, who faces the serious dilemma of being at odds with a ruthless commissioner who is intent upon continuing his dictatorial reign. Here's hoping Jerry is able to convince most of them to examine their positions and come to realize the inherent dangers that they face with Goodell in charge. They've unwittingly granted him power that corrupts.

What he's done to the Cowboys, Ezekiel and Jerry, he can easily do to any and all of the others who fail to come to grips with their plight. Being in denial of the monster that they've created can only lead to more failure, corruption, chaos and dilemmas to deal with.

Jerry really doesn't appear to have a ton of support among the other owners here.

That's possible. If so, his efforts to get the other owners to assemble and convene are surely aimed at correcting that.

It's easy for me to see that the league has reached a tipping point. I don't understand how the vast majority of owners can't see that too.

And it's hard for me to see anything that this Commissioner has handled properly or effectively.

Nothing since the CBA negotiations, and based on the players actions, that's not a tough thing to do for anyone.

I respect him for fighting on this one.

Do you think things are going well for the NFL?
I want him to fight. Jerry has taken on the NFL before but this time, it will be the NFL that wins. The NFL is a monster and is going to crush Jerry.

How so? Roger doesn't have the support the media is trying to make you believe. 12 owners is what Roger has, do the math.

It wasn't a vote to extend him, it was a vote for the committee to hash out the details of any possible contract extension.
According to all reports, the compensation committee was given full authority to negotiate and sign Goodell to a deal. I believe those reports because if they were not true, Jerry would make sure we all darn well knew they weren't true. Instead, his legal tact is to say "the compensation committee lied to us".

It would be VERY interesting if the compensation committee goes ahead and exercises the authority that was already delegated to them. I think the owners' meeting next month is going to try and gain a consensus before they employ that nuclear option.

I don't understand why Goodell waited to suspend Zeke just before the season started for D.V. If he doesn't respect the sanctity of the game, then he needs to go.

By waiting, he only allowed all the negative drama to spill into the 2017 NFL season. Why not suspend him at the end of the 2016 season? Obviously, he had a personal agenda he placed over the sanctity of the game, and to me, that's unforgivable.

Exactly. I think JJ over-estimated how much support the other owners would give him. They declined this meeting and our closing their ranks (at least it looks that way)

By threatening a lawsuit right out of the gate— JJ may have lost some potential allies, if indeed his intention has been to go to war with RG.

My concern is that this is now uphill and his leverage is diminishing daily. He is being painted more and more as a vindictive, ego-driven bully. Not a good look.

For the record— he has every reason to be pissed and fight, I just am questioning the methodology at this point.
