PFT: Kitna's remarks remain a sore spot for Bradie James

It has been two years since Jon Kitna harshly criticized Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bradie James, but those words apparently haven't lost their sting.

And James acknowledged this week that he's still holding a grudge against Kitna even though they're teammates now.

"[Kitna] just raked me over the coals," James told ESPN 103.3 in a radio interview, per Tim MacMahon of the Dallas Morning News. "I've definitely had visions of emasculating him."

Here's why James is mad at Kitna:

In 2007, the Cowboys were coming off a defeat to the Detroit Lions when Kitna told a Seattle radio station, "There were some times that we were watching on film before we played Dallas that we really felt like No. 56 [James], some times I don't know that he knew where he was at."

On the surface, that wouldn't seem to be that bad. However, James is apparently extremely sensitive.

When the topic was broached to James this week, the linebacker made it clear that it's not a laughing matter even though Kitna apologized for the remarks the following year.

Plus, Kitna and James have discussed the situation since Kitna joined the Cowboys' roster.

However, James hasn't softened his stance much at this point.

"I mean, to be honest with you and I know this is a little inside, but after I got married and said I do, my perspective changed on a couple of things," James said. "So, I talked to him. That's pretty much it. . . .

"Just, we talked about it, move on. Hopefully, if he starts mouthing off . . . hopefully he doesn't do that again, because as a quarterback, I don't know how you could do that."

Just in case Kitna and Mrs. Kitna are concerned about James going after Kitna's, er, equipment, James said that he's not planning any sneak attacks/cheap shots on Tony Romo's backup.

At least for now, peace can reign in Valley Ranch, even if James is inclined to hold on to a fairly innocuous comment for far too long.

He shouldn't foget, Kitna should've kept his mouth shut and stopped talking like he had just won the Super Bowl. When the pads come on in TC, I promise you that there will a red X on Kitna's chest.

If James takes a shot and hurts Kitna (which I DON'T think Brady will do) he should be fined and suspended by JJ. Like it or not, Kitna is on the team now and is vital to our success. Anything that distracts & hurts the team from achieving the Ultimate goal needs to be left at home once TC starts.....

Bradie James has never exhibited any type of retaliatory behavior at the high school, college or professional level. Jon Kitna can rest easy. James isn't going to 'get even' anytime soon.

I wish James would hold some grudges against the Giants who have raked the Cowboys over the coals, and Brandon Jacobs in particular for trashing Romo

I'm sure he will play extremely hard against the Giants. He may even try to hurt Jacobs during a tackle, but only in the sense that he will try to tackle him as hard as humanly possible. James is a football player, but he isn't a dirty one.

oh, I know James isn't dirty, but I've never heard him display his ire for any opponent

Kitna saying those things is a good thing as Bradie's play greatly improved afterward. It's even gotten to the point where I feel pretty comfortable with Bradie in coverage. He was abonimable in '06 for those who cannot remember. Of course part of that was the scheme and Parcells requiring him to put on about 20 pound. But if stuff like that helps get a player motivated to perform better I am all for it.

Get over it, Bradie. I despised Kitna when he made those comments and wanted Bradie and Newman to drive him into the turf in Dec. '07 (I was at that game), but the Dallas D barely touched him. Now Kitna is a Cowboy and that makes him OK with me. I'm homeristic like that. He proved to be an idiot at times in Detroit, but he has an excellent skill set for a backup QB. Hopefully, he's learned his lesson about dissing opponents and hopefully Bradie can move forward. Quite frankly, he never should've admitted to still holding a grudge. That's something you keep to yourself.

If anything their should be an extra dose of enthusiasm in training camp when these guys face each other every day.

I heard that interview, and I think it was more tongue-in-cheek than anything. I think the only reason it was even commented on was because they were chatting about Greg Ellis and his idiotic comments...

I know that Kitna's comment really did bother him back then, but I don't believe that he still cares (he actually sounded at least a little sarcastic when he was discussing it anyway).

Does this team have a psychologist on staff? If not, it might be time.

Two years ago...Kitna was 100% correct. James was just learning the postion and was freakin clueless. out there. Havign said that, I'm surprised Kitna actually made this fact public knowledge.

As for James...he's a now a huge asset....but if you were serious, get over your self. The truth hurts...sorry. Be the bigger man and grow the hell up.

Now, if this was tongue-in-cheek...than GREAT!

Isn't that the truth.

I'd love to see him have enough "fire" to help the Cowboys win one lousy playoff game.

Sacamano is right: direct your "fire" at the opponents Bradie. Guy STILL doesn't get it IMO. Just like 1/2 this team: immature babies. Too bad, because he's a pretty good player.

How would anyone interpret that comment as 'wouldn't seem to be that bad'? He basically said James didn't know where he was at or what he was supposed to be doing on any given play. Essentially he called James a tard and a liability to the defense.
