Twitter is basically a limited forum used to dictate what you want to discuss rather than letting everyone discuss anything. Imagine the moment you signed up at CZ, you are presented with your own forum that only you could start threads in, but everyone else can reply to or view, and there's 14,000 other forums just like it. That's essentially all twitter does.

If you haven't noticed, this is a thread about Twitter.

That kind of means that all things Twitter related are relevant to the thread.

Even if those things are opinions that it sucks.

I can't believe a team would actually even have to inform its player of a policy like this. You would think it would be common sense. But such is the mentality of this day and age.

To me it's like turning off your cell phone when you walk into a court room or a movie theater or church. Just show some common sense for crying out loud. It really isn't too much to ask.

I believe someone on this board said it best "twitter is a technology looking for an identity".

When the "connect" happens and the "twitter"(or whatever its called then) becomes automatic.. THEN you will get the automatic twitter(no manual entry).

As the NFL wrestles with itself over a social networking policy for players during games, including what should happen to players who use sites like Twitter at halftime, the Cowboys have had their own issues arise already.

One player posted a tweet during practice Saturday afternoon. While Wade Phillips has said previously the Cowboys are monitoring those sites to make sure players are using them responsibly, he was asked Sunday whether their was any thought of banning such technology on company time.



"You know, when cell phones came in, technology came in, you didn’t realize it was there," Phillips said. "I think one team had a player on the sideline during a preseason game that was on a cell phone. So you have to come up with rules when these new technologies come out so they don't disrupt your team and certainly they’re not doing the wrong things by the NFL, also."

As of yet, the Cowboys don't have any hard rules or fines in place regarding the use of social networking sites.


"Like I said, I think we have to keep on top of that," Phillips said. "We don’t have a fine for anything like that during meetings. That would be a fine, certainly. That’s really covered anyway, as far as meetings and our time. I’m talking about the Cowboys’ time with the players. They’re not allowed to do a lot of things. That’s pretty well covered."

Facebook's main purpose is to not tell people what you are doing at any given second.

That is what Twitter is. Just because Facebook has that capability doesn't mean that is its main purpose.

I just think Twitter is a complete waste of time aimed at stroking the ego of a few people who play off their celebrity.

I think I signed up for it and logged in once. It was complete boring.

With that said, I'm seriously considering my plan from another thread where I start a Twitter account and post the most mundane and useless crap just to see if people will read it.

And I'm talking ridiculous posts such as "just took a dump" or "poured a glass of milk".

I want to see just how many people would follow a completely worthless account becuase that is what Twitter is all about.

Here's another hint: On July 31st, at 3:30PM, with the MLB trade deadline winding down and trades coming in like a whirlwind, the place to be to get the most up to date information on what your team was doing, to get information FIRST... was twitter. NOT ESPN, Yahoo, MLB.com, CNNSI... twitter.

You said it was a bunch of people talking about what they were doing at every moment of the day. Which it CAN be, but most definitely does not have to be.

For instance, my twitter (which I dont' write on, only use it to follow) includes the following people: Bill Simmons (columnist who posts good links every now and then), Paul Raff (comedian, funny posts), freakonomics (posts interesting economics-related links), MartyBTV (just cuz, he's actually not very interesting on twitter), and all the magazines that I read regularly, for the links they post: Vanithy Fair, Esquire, The Economist, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker.

Of that entire list, every single one I follow just to get links of interesting articles and such all delivered to one place, and not a single one posts "taking a dump" as a tweet.

I don't care when you're brushing your teeth or taking out your trash. How is it that some bozo comes up with these absolutely dumb ideas and then makes millions off of it because people are too stupid to realize it's just another way of doing something we've always done.

Wow you can post updates to your twitter page with your cell phone! Sounds to me like another way of simply writing about something on a website only now you've got the added advantage of writing about every little thing in life that you do! Awesome!

Twitter as social tool: awkward and unnecessary.

Twitter as a Media/Marketing tool: Potentially revolutionary. An NBA player this past off season broke the news of his coach's' firing directly to his team's fans via twitter. Has that ever happened before?

The inherit nature of the internet makes us all vulnerable. As a rule of thumb never put factual information on the interweeb unless it is absolutely imperative and you should use multiple email addresses, one for online bills, one for places like cowboy zone, etc. Some would be amazed if they knew what could be gleaned from their facebook, *******, twitter, etc.

Personally, I value my privacy some don't, I guess it is their prerogative.

If someone wanted your personal info, they could get it. Just having a computer with internet makes you very very very vulnerable. So best to get rid of your computer, buy lots of water and canned foods and live in your basement...best to be safe you know!
