As the NFL continues to gets its arms around the new technology that more and more players are embracing, the Packers plan to lay down the law -- and raid the wallets -- of anyone on the team who uses it during an official function.

According to the Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, any Packer who uses Twitter while on the clock will be fined the maximum amount of $1,701.

So running back Ryan Grant made it clear on his own Twitter page that he won't be posting updates while at work. "Expect tweets in the morning before we go to work, possibly around lunch time and at night once we done," Grant said. "I don't want that heavy fine."

The fact that the Twitter page includes reference to the time that each update is posted, it'll be easy for teams to prove that a tweet was added at a time when Twitter was forbidden.

Still, we figure that plenty of guys will bend the rules, and then some.
----------------

Let's hope Wade passed out a similar memo. I've noticed that Martellus' tweets have scaled back dramatically since camp opened.

That's an absolutely outstanding idea. It's too bad that the fine is that low, though.

Do you really want guys out on the football field thinking about what they are going to tweet next? Or looking around for their phone or laptop so they ca break off an awesome tweet? I don't.

Additionally, it's not even necessary. There will be plenty of time to "tweet", "twitter", whatever the hell players want to do, after practice and classroom meetings.

Twitter is complete crap and I am fully on board with this idea. Excellent move in Green Bay.

Actually it’s not. Much like Youtube, Facebook...it is the wave of the future. Get used to it.

And it is really really cool. I am enjoying it.

The only thing that concerns me regarding things like Facebook, *******, and Twitter is that there's no way to verify that the person "Twittering" is indeed who they say they are.

Edit: Is the social networking site that starts with an 'M' seriously a banned word?

No, passing notes in class is childish. Really that is what it breaks down to.

Don't talk on the phone with your girlfriends. Don't text and stay off the damn internet. At least put on the facade of professionalism.

Thank you.

Pay attention to your job and then - if it somehow floats your boat - tweet at night during your free time. Simple.

When I first heard about Twitter I thought it was the dumbest idea ever. Now I'm a huge fan. I do not tweet myself, but following Twitter feeds is basically a way to pick and choose which news/information you get delivered directly to you. I follow things like the Cowboys, NFL, Man Utd, etc. and it's pretty damn cool.

No, it is. Its a completely egotistical website.

"I'm so important that people should know what I am doing at any given second"

Twitter isn't even close to being anything that resembles YouTube or Facebook.

Twitter is ridiculous. I can't believe some people wrap themselves around this junk.

I can't believe a team would actually even have to inform its player of a policy like this. You would think it would be common sense. But such is the mentality of this day and age.

To me it's like turning off your cell phone when you walk into a court room or a movie theater or church. Just show some common sense for crying out loud. It really isn't too much to ask.

Yes it is. People with facebook, ******* update their status every few minutes or hours. Post what is going on in their lives. Call it whatever you want...but honestly, if you want instant information...Twitter is going to have it first. It is going to be bigger than any other website...get used to it.

Edit: BTW, because of Twitter i have had a chance to talk to MartyB, Sensabaugh and Ocho Cinco. Pretty cool.

Facebook's main purpose is to not tell people what you are doing at any given second.

That is what Twitter is. Just because Facebook has that capability doesn't mean that is its main purpose.

I just think Twitter is a complete waste of time aimed at stroking the ego of a few people who play off their celebrity.

I think I signed up for it and logged in once. It was complete boring.

With that said, I'm seriously considering my plan from another thread where I start a Twitter account and post the most mundane and useless crap just to see if people will read it.

And I'm talking ridiculous posts such as "just took a dump" or "poured a glass of milk".

I want to see just how many people would follow a completely worthless account becuase that is what Twitter is all about.

From a NFL fans perspective it is very useful. You can get updates from the NFL, bloggers, players, article links, ect. It’s not just ... “i took a dump”. Players are sharing their camp experiences and what it is like to be an NFL player. Now if you find that useless...then that’s your opinion. Right now, two other bloggers (not timmy) are doing play by play of training camp on twitter. They also let u know when they are on ustream. Exactly how different is it than a blog or message boards? All about information.

If you dislike it so much, don't sign up or use it. Why do you have to have 20 different posts trying to convince people how stupid it is?

I had to actually look this up!

***

A tweet is a post or status update on Twitter, a microblogging service. Because Twitter only allows messages of 140 characters or less, "tweet" is as much a play on the size of the message as it is on the audible similarity to Twitter.

So, I guess this a backwards "Hooked On Phonics"?
