Just when it appeared that the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans wouldn’t be able to strike a deal regarding a trade for cornerback Pacman Jones, it now appears that the two teams are once again working toward getting it done.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, a trade finally could be in place by Tuesday.

Per Schefter, the Cowboys had been offering a sixth-round pick, but the Titans had been holding out for a fourth-rounder. The ‘Boys also wanted to recover a pick from the Titans in the future if Pacman were to get in trouble while in Texas.

Our wild guess is that the final deal will be for a fifth-rounder. Or maybe a sixth-rounder in 2008 and a conditional pick in 2009.

None of this means that Jones will be reinstated by the league. If, however, Jones’ rights are held by a more powerful and influential owner like Jerry Jones, there might as a practical matter be more pressure on the league officer to let Pacman play again.

Ugh!

Just let this be over. Trade for him, or just say forget it. I hate this.. but I guess if I were a more patient grasshopper, I wouldn't be in the agony I am now.

Makes perfect sense. Both teams have been concentrating on finalizing draft boards and plans. As the draft approaches, both teams would like to have the situation settled. If no other team has shown serious interest, the Tenn is probably itching to get it done and get an extra pick this year before he may get in trouble again. Dallas would like to get it done so that they have more flexibility on draft day should opportunities present themselves. When its all said and done, I suspect both sides would have given a little and will claim victory.

Wow. Way to go out on a limb there. That's some WILD guess there.

It is suprising to me that not one other team has offered more than a 6th rd pick for him. He is a big risk, but so is any 6th round pick.

Just make it a fifth rounder in 2008.

No conditional picks in 2009.

If Pacman is clean for 2 years and is a starter for 16 games over 2 years, Titans get another 5th in 2010. That would be fair to both sides and allow both sides to give a little bit.

I think the worries are that even if you have him on your team, you can't depend on him due to the risk of suspension. This may force you to carry an extra defensive back on the roster and spend an extra draft pick on the position anyway. In our case, I think it is worth the risk to bring him in given the weakness in our secondary, how close we are to the SB and that we have a track record of doing well with these reclamation projects.

Say what you want about Moss, but I don't think there were ever concerns about him being suspended - it is just that he was monumentally unhappy to play in Oakland.

Hmmm. I still only want give them a 6th rounder this year although 5th rounder could be the compromise. Like the idea of delaying any further compensation to them until 2010; also like criteria you set for an additional pick. But I'd sure hate giving them a 4th or 5th rounder if we can/t re-sign him to a new contract. So that has to be a factor in Jerry's mind as well.

Great, now I have to wait till Tuesday to see if we traded for him. This is getting annoying. I bet by Tuesday morning, Ed Werder will report that trade talks stalled...........again.

No, he wasn't. He said, "it's a done deal." The deal is not done, it is still working to get done.

It's a shame that you don't understand the difference.

I hope this means the Titans are finally coming to their senses. They were starting to get nonsensical with their greedy eyes but it would be best for them to take what they can get for him now instead of waiting until after the draft where it is possible nobody would want to trade for him and he would eventually get cut. I said before that the closer it gets to the draft, the less leverage the Titans have. Good thing Jerry held firm.
