RUMORS FLY THAT REID IS ON HIS WAY OUT

After a tumultuous personal offseason involving legal troubles for two of his sons and a disappointing 1-3 start to the 2007 campaign, it should surprise no one that rumors are circulating that Eagles coach Andy Reid will step down after the season, if not sooner.

The fact that these events are unfolding in Philadelphia will only make the storm more intense. The unexpected qualification of the Phillies for the baseball playoffs could stave off the bulk of the scrutiny for as long as a month, but eventually the Phils will be done -- and the focus will shift back to the Eagles.

And the name to watch in this regard is Jon Gruden.

Gruden's star is back on the rise as he leads the Bucs out of last season's disaster to a 3-1 start. If he can find a way to beat the Colts on Sunday without tailback Cadillac Williams and left tackle Luke Petitgout, Gruden will shoot straight to the top of the "A" list. Though that might prompt some to conclude that the Glazers will decide that they don't want to let Gruden go if he can propel the Buccaneers back to the postseason, the talk in league and media circles is that ownership is ready to make a change, regardless of how this season plays out.

With that said, we wouldn't be surprised to see Tampa try to recover some of the draft picks and/or cash that was sent to Oakland when Gruden was hired in 2002.

So I guess everytime the eagles lose the story will be someone will be fired, or the qb will be benched?

If you pay close attention to the things Jeff Lurie and Joe Banner do with the organization what makes anyone believe they would hire Jon Gruden. I wouldnt be suprised someday when reid is gone, down the road they hire another unkown who they believe in.

Is Andy Reid a good lawyer? Because that is what his sons need.

dunno about that but he's been a damn good coach for the eagles. that said, if his sons need that much attention and he can't focus, maybe he should step down.

The article of RUMOR seems to indicate that Andy may step down, not that he will be fired.

Here's the same story from a BETTER source:

http://www.phillymag.com/blogs/phil...-potentially-bad-news-in-philadelphia-sports/

It’s been a constant rumor all year, but after Sunday night’s loss to the Giants, sources close to Andy Reid and the team say there’s a strong possibility Reid may get off the sidelines sooner than expected. All year, Reid’s family troubles have been taking a noticeable toll, and many of his players are biding their time until Big Red makes an announcement. With Marty Mornhinweg already assuming much of the offense, Reid’s a lame-duck coach at this point, just poking around on the sidelines to keep his mind off of his woes. The likely scenario is inserting Mornhinweg in the coach’s seat so Reid can ride out the rest of his contract as Executive Vice President of Football Operations, leaving him more time with his fractured family.
Also, sources are saying with Donovan McNabb most likely spending his last year in Philadelphia, this bye week might be the best possible time for the organization to officially switch gears. McNabb will continue to start (for now), but regardless of how the season turns out, this is most likely his victory lap in Philadelphia.

Anybody that surprised?

yes I know that.

My point was, We only get these types of rumours after an eagles loss. The source of this is probably philly sports radio.

Super Spare Sal Palantonio wrote a 2 page column on how mcnabb was on his way out and how he stinks etc.....

But then he is perfect against the lions and no one said anything.

Now they lose because they are extremely banged up, missing key players all over the field and what do you know, Now reid is going to quit..

Andy Reid is in the perfect situation in Philly, he runs everything and he has a good team.

He's sure to quit after they play us.

:laugh2:

Hopefully after a 30-point beatdown.

The Eagles appear to be in a complete tailspin, and there couldn't be a better time for our new aggressive team to stomp the last bit of life out of them.

Oh that would be a thing of beauty.

Heck if they're like everyone else we play they'll let coach go and bench McNabb after their beating takes place.

Did you even SEE Reid on the sidelines in that Giants game? For one, he didn't even look like his composed/stoic self(maybe my glasses need to get adjusted, but it looked like he was yelling at Jim Johnson). Two, what the heck was that calling a TO in the 4th qtr b/c his FG team wasn't ready? Even Campo wasn't THIS stupid. And three, why didn't Justice get any help? Even Stubborn Parcells wasn't stupid enough to leave Torrin Tucker on an island by himself.

The guy's distracted, plain and simple, which is why they're losing games.

Yes I watched the game, Yes I saw Andy Reids face.

And your preaching to the choir about justice, I said it during the game in a thread How I couldnt understand why they would allow that and take the chance of mcnabb getting hurt.

Of course I had to have three people tell me I was an idiot and how it was wrong for a cowboys fan to have an opinion on the eagles line since our line sucks and our draft picks on the line all suck...but whatever...

I am sorry, I am just not buying reid is going to leave this year.

I kind of hate to hear this. Andy Reid is one of the really good guys in the NFL. I can't stand his team, but the man is a great football coach and a better human being. Maybe he feels his sons need to leave the Philly area where they've stumbled on bad influences? Who knows. It is a shame that a good guy has to go through this.

Yes it is ....... its a shame that 20+ year old men have to act like stupid teenagers and put this much stress on a man who already has a stressful job.

And at his weight I would not be surprised if his health does not suffer greatly from this.
