I think a Payton/Fangio pairing would be tremendous for whoever gets them.
Has Fangio already been talked about as going with Payton? I haven’t heard.

Or is that just a combo that you think would be good?

I believe that was mostly media hullabaloo. based on how the season has gone, MM has already locked in the 2023 coaching position regardless of what happens after today. Jerry has nof fired a coach with a winning record in the 30 years since Jimmy, not to mention a record as good as 12-5/11-6 in back to back years.

I also don’t think Sean would come to Dallas even if the job was unoccupied, unless Jerry gave up a lot of GM control which will never ever happen

well, you obviously don’t pay attention. It’s already proven and on record that Payton was nearly the cowboys coach a few years ago. So Jerry and Sean were on the same page. If McCarthy doesn’t win a playoff game, I assure you he is gone. He might be gone if he only wins 1 playoff game. But that isn’t a certainty, I will admit that. He has to win 2 playoff games for his job to be 100% safe.

You and I have very different definitions of “proven”. He wasn’t leaving the Saints at that time.

Would you be willing to make a friendly non monetary wager on Mccarthy’s fate in a winless playoff appearance?

I would go Peyton and Fangio in a heartbeat unless we make the NFCCG

that is a much better staff than we have now

Peyton could really bring out the best in Dak and Fangio IMO is a better DC than Quinn

I would watch out for the Chargers for this one. I can see that happening.

I'll be glad when Payton does sign with another team so these silly rumor will end. If I had to guess where he is going I'm going to go with a long shot and say Miami.

Sure Miami has a new HC but they only signed him to a 4 year deal. If they didnt want to fire him they could always move him into a different position within staff.

They had a 100 million dollar contract offer for Payton if he wanted to coach. Of course they got into trouble over that but still I'm sure they would offer him the same this off season. The only downside about Miami is they wont have a 2023 1st round pick to play with and New Orleans is going to want a high draft pick to release him

Fangio is awesome, but I agree with the people who say the difference between Payton and McCarthy isn’t enormous, Payton just has way better PR.

IMO, 9 no doubt HoF QBs have played in the nfl the last 20 years: Favre, Warner, Brady, Mahomes, Manning1, Manning 2, Roethlisberger, Brees, Rodgers. Only 2 failed to make multiple Super Bowls…

The one Payton Coached, and the one McCarthy coached.

i don’t agree with it
I think Payton is way more focused and hands on than MM

So it's proven and on record that Payton did not reach an agreement to make him head coach of the Cowboys. That doesn't seem like being on the same page to me.

MM Isn’t going anywhere, unless they get blown out in the opening rd of the playoffs. He has done an excellent job and has this team back into the playoff in back to back seasons.

If we go one and done again then it will be interesting to see if Jerry fires him.

He fired Jimmy after 2 superbowls.

That was also 30 years ago, and their relationship was terrible. He kept Wade a year too long because he managed to go 11-5 after a colossally disappointing 9-7, he kept Garrett many years too long because he had intermittently successful seasons, he kept Campo too long because he didn’t think he had enough time to implement his coaching system.

To say 12-5, 12-5, seeya? Unfathomable
