EXACTLY! Why people lament THIS meaningless 4th round pick when Jerry does things like purposely blind his own players, JAG TEs in 2nd round.

Lance is like REALLY LOW on the list of silliness.
I think the point is that if you are going to use the pick because of the player's potential, then you should use the player, especially when the situation is tailor made for it. For most of us, Lance needed to be made the starter as soon as Prescott went down. The team traded for him to see if he could develop into the player San Fran hoped he'd be when it spent a first-rounder on him. One of the main knocks on him is his lack of experience, the need for playing time, so here we are ...

Man..I’m a huge Lance fan.

if the team does its job with that kid, we could have our next QB1.
He can’t be. Jerry paid Dak to be our QB for the next several season’s.

Trey Lance is a free agent and some team will probably pick him up in the offseason, unless he is willing to stay with the Cowboys for league minimum.

I’m not even sure if we get any type of draft compensation when he does go to another team?

The Cowboys are heavily invested in Dak like it or not.

Trey will be an ex Cowboy player after this season.

29 years without a Super Bowl win or even an appearance or even a conference championship game appearance ..

It's really funny how the Jones family has never had a single regret for any of their decisions.
Exactly. No regret for a bad trade? THAT is the problem.

I actually liked them taking the risk. But they should have admitted that it hasn't worked out. The thing with taking risks is that they can go wrong. But nothing wrong with that. But there is something really wrong, when they can't even admit it.

And that's the problem with this franchise. The narcissists in the FO really think they're infallible. Despite their track record. Has to be some sort of psychological disease.

As weird as it sounds, those three SB wins in the 90s have screwed us in the long term. Who would have thought.
This wasn't a risk. Lance is a QB who had not panned out and had been terrible from the start. This was pure stupidity.

See the joy in the 2024 team, they think it's the best decision they've ever made!!!

Not sure what else Stephen Jones could say publicly if he did regret the trade. I doubt he will intentionally go on record disagreeing with Daddy Jones. Not getting himself written out of the will is the smartest thing he will ever do.

I get what you're saying, but regret won't change anything. Learn from your mistakes and take it as an experience, but look forward. That's why the windshield is bigger than the rear view mirror. The rear view only serves to extend a friendly finger to your critics.
I agree with that mindset as well, because dwelling on regrets will not change anything nor help you move forward.

However, the Cowboys don't learn from their mistakes. They just rotate them periodically thinking "this time will be different".

Some self-reflection is healthy and helpful, but unfortunately arrogance can outweigh and remove those benefits and that's what the Cowboys have.

They still operate like they have accomplished things in the last few years, when in reality they have gone almost half the entire existence of the team without even making it to an NFC Championship game.

This team is WAY beyond the point where everything should have been wiped and everyone should have been fired and that includes the GM.

It's tabula rasa time!

First, they don’t appear to understand the bust factor of draft picks…in several regards, even after the curtain is pulled.

But I can’t figure out what scenario would have made this trade possibly work out.

The only one that sort of makes sense is if Prescott was hurt early LAST year, and Lance took over and lit it up, but they still would have had to pay HIM in that case.

Playing him now does nothing except giving him a shot to get an opportunity elsewhere.

I’ll say it again…it was nothing more than Jerry playing with his toy.

Neither one of the Joneses will ever admit a mistake. Jerry probably still believes Lance was worth three first round picks.

Why would they regret that trade?

3rd pick in the 1st round vs a 4th.

that’s easy.

risk vs reward.

hopefully we get to see the kid start a game soon.
This is one of the reasons the Cowboys are a failure.

Where a player was originally drafted should be irrelevant when you’re evaluating a player.

This applies to Trey Lance. It applies to Mingo. It applies to bringing back Zeke this year. It applies to handing Mazi Smith significant snaps at DT. It applies to throwing Guyton out there as a rookie.

5 bad moves that significantly impacted this season.

Dudes a billionaire and can do whatever he wants the rest of his life. Go anywhere, do anything, eat anything, etc.

What’s there to regret.

Yeah a 4th is really nothing for a lottery ticket quarterback. For every Dak(4th round comp) there are 5 Fehokos.
