News: PFT: Stephen Jones on trade for Trey Lance: I don't regret that at all

EXACTLY! Why people lament THIS meaningless 4th round pick when Jerry does things like purposely blind his own players, JAG TEs in 2nd round.

Lance is like REALLY LOW on the list of silliness.
Jag tight ends, cornerbacks who have been kicked off their college teams and want to be in "da streets," linebackers with absolutely shredded knees, defensive tackles with the maturity of children, and potheads who don't care about anybody but themselves and leave you hanging after you propped them up for the last five or six years.

I wouldn't have taken any of those guys as rookie free agents besides the tight ends. Spann - Ford has already put up more production than any of the four tight ends we selected in the second round combined.

Man..I’m a huge Lance fan.

if the team does its job with that kid, we could have our next QB1.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Lance will never be an NFL starter, barring injury. He'll be out of the league by 2026.

Per the article:

Stephen Jones said:
As you know, Dak was coming up for a contract, and we wanted to take a look at a good, young talent and didn’t feel like we could get anything from a quality standpoint like we could get with Trey.
January 2024:

Fans have their opinions. On the other hand, Jones has his down the road/Aaron Rodgers-to-Jordan Love transition set already. In his head. No insurance policy. No near future 'Surprise Cowboys fans! I Waived Prescott! Heeeeeere's Trey!' plan.

For his sake, I can only hope that different coaching and more patient acclimation to the NFL will eventually benefit Lance. If unsuccessful, Lance will be another example of final decision-making by Jones--although Lance does stand out as one of his more unique rationalizations since he was so proactive in securing Lance.

Nailed it.

They are so predictable.

More accurately, it is "Lance will never be an NFL starter, barring injury, again." He was drafted and inserted as a starter by San Francisco, who later accessed he was not the future at quarterback and dumped him on the first mark thinking he could be a starter.

Regret would require introspection. The jones don't indulge in such thing. It's full steam ahead with no doubts..... the direction doesn't matter.

Lance is the least of their recent blunders.

29 years. Also the # of years Tom Landry was coach.

2 Lombardis, 5 SB appearances, 10 NFCC appearances, in Landry's 29 years (which includes all the bad initial years when they were starting from scratch).

0, 0, 0 in the last 29 Jerry Jones years.

And the Jones family regrets nothing. Because hey, they're multi-billionaires.

And no one is happier about this trade than Kyle Shanahan. The Jones boys got snookered, again

I don't have an issue with the trade. I understand what they were trying to do. But with the Cowboys it is always execution. They wanted to use Lance s a bargaining chip with Dak. Of course that was a long shot, but in the end Jerry gave Dak everything anyway. Why make the trade if you are just going to give in to everything?

The Cowboys need to decide what the strategy is. Do they build through the draft like they claim? If so, then stop wasting draft picks on long shots. Treat the draft picks like they are worth something.

29 years without a Super Bowl win or even an appearance or even a conference championship game appearance ..

It's really funny how the Jones family has never had a single regret for any of their decisions.

They have regrets. They don't confess them until the 20 year statute of limitations is up.

Ego maniacal, narcissistic, morons. Admit it was a mistake. Be accountable.
Yes! But better yet, get away from the mic constantly and you won’t have to subject yourself to these type of questions, the answers of mostly only end up pissing off the fans.

Just goes to show the lack of awareness and ability to assess nearly anything accurately due to the inflated opinion of themselves and the people they surround themselves with that reinforce it.

The league has seen an explosion in growth making the Cowboys the most valuable sports franchise in the world without having to earn it on the field.

What's there to regret?

A narcissist will never admit their mistakes, they will always have an excuse. Jerry is not the only one, the whole damn family is becoming that.

I get what you're saying, but regret won't change anything. Learn from your mistakes and take it as an experience, but look forward. That's why the windshield is bigger than the rear view mirror. The rear view only serves to extend a friendly finger to your critics.
