Not sure why fans believe this? It goes against everything our idiotic owners have said. I understand these fans may want it to happen but why would Jethro let our QB who continues taking us to playoffs go?

Staying interesting and relevant is our owners priority. And like it or not Prescott delivers enough for Jethro to hype .
The “idiotic” owners have said one thing and done another a number of times. No one person takes a team to the playoffs. Several talented individuals at a number of positions and coaching does.

If Dak once again falters in the playoffs (all other things on the team being equal) and Lance shows something that makes them think they can go in a different direction, then they will change their mind. A lot of things can happen from now and the end of the season. The main owner and the guy who still has final say thinks other parts of the team are more than good enough to win the SB and he thinks time is running out for him.

The only way Dak isn't getting an extension is if his play completely and totally collapses or if he suffers a catostrophic (career threatening) injury this year.

The Cowboys need to do something about that 2024 cap hit and the easiest thing is to spread it out a few more years. I think the team should give Dak more money up-front, that way they can have an "out" in case something happens in the future or if Lance does someday prove to be his successor.

As for Lance, there's no way the team will get an answer about him this year unless Dak goes down and they decide not to go with Rush.
Either scenario is not totally ruled out. It's how Tony and dak got their jobs.

Plus....it's a business... businesses have contingency plans.

So, it takes a team to get to playoffs but only a QB can lose it:)

When is Lance going to show them while Prescott is out there?

Jethro has told us what his priorities are why don’t you believe him? And narcissistic personality like him thinks he’s going to live forever. Lol

I never said that. I said if Dak is a significant reason as to why the team loses…Read what someone writes.

That would make it three times in a row that Jethro would be disappointed. At least an NFC championship game must be the goal this year.

No, I don’t believe Jerry or Stephen when they say something that is clearly dependent upon future results.

I’d agree it’s the goal but not an ultimatum.

And fans are more disappointed than Jethro. He’s pleased with the results recently. It’s a team he can hype for hope stemming revenue.

Prescotts extension isn’t based on future results. Fans want to think that.

This IMO should kill any talk of Dak NOT getting his extension for at least 3-5 more years. Trust me, Stephen already has a good idea of what Dak's price tag will be, yet it didn't stop him from making the statement.

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profo...cott-will-be-here-for-many-many-years-to-come

Stephen Jones: Dak Prescott will be here “for many, many years to come”

And as expected.. many many many more years of mediocrity to come.
With a good person at the QB position but a very very mediocre one

Interesting stat I read over at the Dallas Cowboys website. Dak had the fastest release at 2.1 seconds from receiving the snap to throwing the pass over any other quarterback in the first game of the regular season. Short passes, limited scanning of the available field?

Live your dream as it's your right to do so.
Nevertheless as sure as the sun will shine Dak will be a pre-June 1st 2024 cut.
There is simply no reason to pay this player any more $$$$$ as it's like throwing $$$$$ down the toilet.

Anyone who thought otherwise wasn't informed. Stephen leaves no doubt about the FO's intentions. Be prepared for Dak's extension. ;)

For the sake of argument, let's say Stephen is on the level. and Dakota gets his "years to come" package. Do football geniuses Jerry and Stephen have a succession plan for him? And if so, what is it?
Lance is the short term plan. Hopefully they can get an extension done for backup money. Longterm would likely be a future draft pick.
“Dak’s the unquestioned leader here on this football team,” Stephen Jones added. “He’s got rare skills in that area in terms of being able to lead the team. You know, we look at Dak as a guy who’s gonna be around here for many, many years to come. And I just really felt like Trey Lance, you know, upgraded the room and gives us a chance if something were to happen to Dak to stay in the mix like other teams have done in the past. I know Philly did it one year with Nick Foles. And sometimes you don’t get your Number One guy all the way through the year and it’s always nice to improve that room.”
Honestly the most interesting thing is it sounds like they would potentially go with Lance if Dak gets injured. I am curious to see how Lance would play with this line and scheme.

Right.. and that’s really as fans all we can do is follow what our ownership and front office intentions are.

Doesn’t mean we have to agree or support their intentions but arguing it isn’t our intentions without any documented support is unfounded and meaningless.

I think it's just PR talk. Saying what it suppose to be said out in the open. If, and this is just a hypothetical, Lance started killing it in training camp next season or so, do you think they wouldn't want to move on to the younger player? They did it to Romo (even though, yes, I understand his injury history at that point).

First of all a contract decision must be made by March.

They moved on with Romo because of not only injury history but most of all Prescott was an impressive 11-0.

Injury is only thing that would present an opportunity to move on from Prescott. And someone like Lance would have needed to prove he could replace him as Franchise QB.

And the only way to prove before March deadline is an extended or season ending injury this year. Also if Prescott is injured most likely Rush comes in. So those wishing to see Lance this year will need to see injury to both.
