Yeah, I know the injury timing thing was coming up so they did wait as long as they could. I can understand waiting until they signed Hurns to give Hurns the impression that Dez would still be here and thus to not ask for leading role money but once that was inked, why not cut him then?

Yep, I can see that as well. Hurns would have a lot more negotiating leverage post-Dez than he did when he was still here.

But when Hurns was signed was the point where they had no reason to keep Dez around any longer. Unless spite was involved.

There's no "football advantage" gained by waiting.

Oh so you're saying Beasley agrees with Dez that it's partly about the coaches lack of imagination, hence the statement about "being next" if he spoke up to the media as well? I thought you were saying that Beasley was a contributing factor as to why Dez was released. Or am I not understanding you correctly?

Yeah you got it right bro....

That he was basically agreeing with Dez

Well that's interesting. Butler, Dez, and now maybe Beasley all felt the same way a lot of fans do about the offense/playcalling. Wonder what TWill would say if he was being truthful.

No, no cap issue at all. That's why the timing is suspect at best, dubious at worst.

The team waited as long as they could whil avoiding a possible workout injury. They waited as long as they could, and I have to wonder why.
Why not wait to see if they could trade him?

Well, in the interview he basically said he could not be as motivated taking a pay cut knowing that people did not like him.

Just think back to the contract negotiations on his big contract. Dez talks about respect, and that means money. Him saying he'd have taken a cut is just part of the I am a victim act and is in no way reality. He'd have pouted, not worked as hard, and if he did make a play, I have no doubts that he be talking about being worth more money.

Good dose of reality, brother.

As for the timing, I definitely think they did the right thing in exploring options before realeasing Dez, but after signing Hurns maybe they should have let him go. Was there a salary cap issue that necessitated the wait?

I think they may have also waited until they had their draft tryouts. Maybe they now feel more confident about getting a quality WR in the draft, so could let Dez go.

Someone else mentioned that with some field work coming, keeping Dez this week might put the Cowboys on the hook for his salary if he got injured.

This sounds like a reasonable possibility.

If you can show me evidence that they did, I'll be glad to hear it.

There probably is no direct evidence, But it’s not unreasonable to think there may have been some reason for the wait, and this particular possibility seems reasonable. And realistically, it was only about a 3 week gap between signing Hurns and releasing Dez, so it’s not as if the delay was all that long.

So, no actual evidence then?

ESPNs Todd Archer apparently has reported there were efforts to trade Dez, but there were no takers who were willing to give up even a later round draft pick to take his current contract.

I think they were concerned he'd accept it. They wanted to move on.

See my last post. But even aside from that, there are all sorts of discussions that happen all the time we don’t know about. Surely you don’t think the only business conversations the Cowboys ever have are those that get reported.

The FO did what they thought was best for the organization, the decision, the timing and everything . They didn't cut Dez because of the money. They cut him because he was going to undermine the (hopeful) franchise QB and team chemistry.

As one poster said, Dez has been a headache for the last couple of years. He has always been a headache even before he was drafted. JJ has coddled and supported him more than any player has ever deserved and he has been overpaid very well. The FO doesn't owe Dez squat.

All this babbling in his recent interviews is costing him millions. I can't beleive that Team X has been able to shut him up.

Everybody has their opinion but nobody has the facts. There was more going on behind the scenes than anybody will ever know.

I was always a Dez supporter and hoped he would be here for one more year, but it's done.

Talk of a potential pay cut for Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant began last season. He responded to the possibility bluntly: He didn't want one. The reality all along was that he'd be gettin...

Say what you want about the lack of production but dez almost always drew a double team. When he was singled they went to him. Dak just had zero chemistry with Dez. This will def hurt the rest of the receivers unless hurns turns into a #1
