Well, our next head coach is likely on this list ..........but who

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profo...news/who-are-the-coaching-candidates-for-2025

Who are the coaching candidates for 2025?

Here are the names we’re currently watching, in alphabetical order.

Bill Belichick: Yeah, he’s coaching at UNC. He also has a $10 million buyout that drops to $1 million in June. And he keeps hanging around the NFL media space. The easy explanation is it’s good for recruiting; the alternative explanation is he wants to keep a line in the pro football waters.

A couple of nuggets......

***Pencil Glenn as a top candidate for the Saints
***Gruden is picking up quite a bit of interest ( Reminder for Cowboy fans......Rod Marinelli, Jason Garrett, Bill Callahan, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, and Gus Bradley are all part of his coaching tree. His mentors are Mike Homgreen and Ray Rhodes)
*** Just read a long article on Vrabel ....... he has a very strong opinion about controlling the team and being in sync with GM and owner. He only needs one offer but I can why he scared some GMs.
***It appears Kellen Moore is just another candidate, nothing special
***If you are looking for a lazy hire, keep an eye on Wes Phillips (long-time former Cowboy assistant who is currently the Vikes OC )

***Jason Witten will be the 2025 staff as an assistant coach IMO

Can't see any NFL team pulling trigger on Belichick in 2025.
Thats why the buyout lowers in June.
His deal likely means he misses all the spots this off-season.

Glenn would be a good candidate. Lots of Texas ties. Houston area HSer who played at Navarro before moving on to TAMU.
Was a Cowboy in the mid 00s.
Has some personnel jobs in his background as well as DB/DC.

No to Gruden. No x 10.
No to Kellen x 10.

Wes Phillip is not a head coach to me yet.

Robert Salah and Brian Flores would also be on my shortlist.

BUT it is Ben Johnson 1A easily and by a mile.
Pairing Ben Johsnon as HC with a highly paid AHC/DC Robert Salah/Brian Flores would be my dream scenario.

1. Johnson -hands down my #1. Goff and Dak are very comparable skill wise. He runs the ball, uses play action, uses motion/shifts, aggressive and very creative.
2. Brady - what he has done with Buffalo esp after trading Diggs, and Allen continues to grow under his watch and the offense has alot of balance.
3. Monken - what he has been able to do with Jackson in the pocket and under center and improving his development as a passer but still using his legs has been impressive the last few years but he is older.
4. Moore - I still like Moore, he can be a bit predictable on occasions but he was still growing as a play caller, and when you are under other coaches who doesnt always fit your approach you can be handcuffed some. But he does run the ball more, he has helped maximize Barkley this year and he is still young, plus he understand Dallas and the personnel there as well.
5. Glenn - I like the confidence and aggression even with guys on the IR. He is going to play his brand of defense -that could be a flaw I felt like Garrett got stubborn like that too many times in his tenure. But he has given Detroit confidence and swagger and when he has talent they are pretty good.
6. Vrabel -might be a leader of men but not a great X and O guy. I am surprised Henry legs havent fell off like an old GI Joe with the kung ** grip. Watching their offense in Tenn when he was there was the worse. I know he had issues with the front office in Tenn at the end but Jerry, Stephen and McClay gonna run the show, so he might not wanna come here. They will give him some resources, maybe not what we want but they had good team when MM came and have had some additions and MM hasnt capitalized. He would need a good OC if he was in Dallas.

Riveria, Gruden and Carroll are the older retreads that fits the mold of the type the Joneses seem to like. *Gruden is a Jerry friend. *Carroll is a winner.

Kellen and Glenn have been in Dallas and would be lower cost HCs due to experience.

Anybody else I'm not really taking seriously, but would be pleasantly surprised with a few of those options.

I just don't see any talented, ambitious coach being willing to put up with working for Jerry Jones. His inability to not interfere is known globally.

In speaking strictly on the Cowboys its either McCarthy or Kellen Moore.
Jerry's HC comfort zone won't be compromised.

"Mike McCarthy: He’s a free agent as of January 14, or earlier if the Cowboys give him permission to interview. His candidacy could be delayed by Jerry Jones, who presumably wants to transform McCarthy’s status after five seasons into a full-week reality show, with the final answer perhaps being leaked during the Eagles’ wild-card playoff game."

Jerry wasn't kidding about this being a 24/7 365 soap opera. Garbage person, garbage owner.

No to cry baby Flores X 10. Glenn or Vrabel would be my choice.

I will say........Jerry's wiping the entire coaching staff. It appears he's ready to give the next coach quite a bit of latitude to choose his own coordinators and assistant coaches. For some reason, many fans don't see the Cowboy's vacancy as appealing to Ben Johnson and I know I'm a minority but why not? I will be honest, I wasn't on his bandwagon but I never bothered to check his bio, other than years of experience. But man, the statement below reminds me of another Johnson head coach we once had (lol). That fact he has player personnel experience is a real plus.
BOLD statement .......IF he takes an interview with Jerry, he WILL BE our next head coach. Like Jimmy Johnson, Jerry will allow him to build his coaching staff AND choose his players.

Johnson was previously the senior director of player personnel for the Lions, where he oversaw scouting operations for both college and pro teams

"He has two criteria: organizational alignment and recognition from a team of its mistakes with a willingness to fix them," Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer wrote. "He will sell teams on his vision, to see whether they're willing to go all in on it."

Johnson has remained firm in his stance that, to leave the Lions, the perfect opportunity will need to arise.
"Something that really resonates with me is, OK, eight openings this past year. What would you set the over-under in three years, how many still have jobs?" Johnson told Birkett. "I'd say there's a good chance five of them are out of jobs in three years. And so, when I look at it from that perspective, if I get the opportunity to go down that road, it's about how do I get to that second contract,
how do I set myself up that if the stars need to align? I'm not going to do it just to do it. I love what I'm doing right now. Love it. Love it. I love where I'm at. My family loves where we're at. Love the people that we're doing it with, and so I'm not willing to go down the other path yet unless I feel really good about how it's going to unfold."

Look here @Hawkeye0202 - I love your thinking my guy, and this is the scenario that I really want lol. Unfortunately, I dont have faith in the front office to get him in the interview cycle, second to listen to whats wrong with the cowboys and third to give him access to the resources he needs to win in Dallas even though we have access to it. But I hope I am wrong.
