Pickens agent has not been contacted about a new contract

Sounds like Jerry Jones is doing what Jerry Jones has always done--wait until the other party breaks and accepts what he is offering.

If Jerry called Mulghetta and offered $35mm a year right now, they say no???
No idea. That would put him with Jefferson.

I don’t think there’s any way Jerry offers him more than CeeDee though so it’s a moot point.

If we could get a 2nd or 1st rounder for him next week I would love that. This team isn’t going anywhere this year and he’s gone next year.

I kinda get it. GP and his agent both said they don’t want to talk contracts until the off season.

I expect Jerry to screw it up as much as possible though.
I heard that too but if i'm Jerry I say lets start negotiating now because the only recourse i have once the season ends is to tag him and then I won't need to worry about negotiations for another year. And maybe that's what he'll do in the end but there isn't any hard im reaching out now.

The agent has heard from Jerry, but you betcha that GP has heard from Jerry. This time, passing notes from the press box down to the sidelines, using the guy selling popcorn as his snitch

I really don't know what people are expecting.

The team's not even halfway through the season yet and a lot can happen between now and the end of the season.

What if in game 16 or 17 he suffers an injury that requires him to miss all of 2026?

We've had a lot of paid players missing games or entire seasons lately so I have no issue at all to waiting to sign anyone to an extension at this point.

From the Cowboys perspective, they could franchise tag him if they really want him back in 2026.

From Pickens' side, given the season he is having, I doubt he wants to talk about a contract extension right now unless it's for a lot of money because if he continues playing well it could help him land a much larger contract with another team if the Cowboys don't want to pay him.

Pickens is great- but the price (draft capital) was too high for a 1-year rental. I've been saying this since the day of the deal. We'll miss that high 3rd round pick in the next draft. That could have been a cheap solid player for years to come.

It would be wonderful to have him back next season, but his cost will be very high, and Dallas can better spend that money on defense and depth instead.

You got 2 1st rounders…they won’t miss it

I don’t think he has a choice with the franchise tag. It’s gonna be an ugly negotiation.
Yeah, after seeing what happened with Micah, GP is not going to sit silent for a month while Jerry drags him through the mud. He’ll won’t take all of the slights and whispered media leaks without speaking his mind.

Then, all those who salute Jerry will say “i told you so!”

Let's see who the Steelers pick with that third round pick. Then you can tell me if having Pickens for a single season was preferable to having that draft pick on a cheap rookie contract for years to come. Oh- and that 5th.....

The Steelers made the smart decision. Dallas did not.

Having an extra first round pick is no excuse.

Tag him and take the highest offer before the draft in April. If it's a 3rd rounder, you have basically rented him for a year at low cap cost for next to nothing. If it's a second rounder or higher, you've grown your draft capital. Howie sent a 1st to the Titans for AJ Brown and had to work out a long term deal with him in a very short timeframe. That was after a 63-869-5 season in Tennessee. Pickens, through 8 games, is sitting on 43-685-6. There's no reason why another GM couldn't agree to a contract with Pickens, minus real agent sabotage or an Antonio Brown level meltdown between now and April. That would be financial suicide for Pickens.

The only thing standing in the way of this strategy is a drunk, incoherent, senile GM.

Wait...
