Pickens agent has not been contacted about a new contract

Just me, but I don't see Pickens's nego coming anywhere close to what happened with Micah. For one, I don't think Jerry has any problem paying him as long as he is asking for Lamb money. Yes, I can see Jerry giving him what he wants within reason. Keep in mind, Dak wants him to stay and Dak generally gets what he wants (lol).
Do you think paying Pickens would prevent us from building a defense? I’m torn on that but some of you guys know the salary cap better than me. I like Pickens and want to keep him but I like winning and would like a new defense. And I know the real question is will Jerry ever bring in an outside FA. I don’t want to sign Pickens if Jerry uses that as an excuse not to bring in stud defensive players. So I guess this is more of a salary cap question.

I don't understand the angst. Pickens said he doesn't want to negotiate until after the season is over. The player said it. Is Jerry supposed to force him to and sign him at gunpoint?

This is like people getting whiny that Parsons was traded when Parsons did everything he could to get traded including publicly requesting a trade.

The stance of Pickens and his agent wait to engage in negotiations after the season was established when he was first traded, and I do believe both sides agreed on that. Ed is just stirring up drama because he knows some Cowboys fans are desperate to lock up Pickens.

Jerry is not going to let GP easily, but whatever he does I'd like for it to be swift in execution, take care of business. So, it's either a new deal or a tag n trade.

Two words.......hell no!
What some are not saying is that paying Pickens wouldn't impact our cap until 2-3 years. You still have plenty of cap to sign a couple of vets and SIX high draft picks ( four 1st and two 2nds) for the D.

I think some don't trust him, and that is fine, but don't hide behind the affordability card, coz we can easily sign him.

No idea. That would put him with Jefferson.

I don’t think there’s any way Jerry offers him more than CeeDee though so it’s a moot point.
Good then someone else will I can't see Pickens taking a discount just to stay here

Trade a 3rd rd pick for a rental, in a year you're not expected to contend. Then don't try to resign him. Just Cowboys things. There's no plan. Just random moves to keep the team relevant.

Ranked by salary, the 10th ranked WR averages $29M/yr. The 15th ranked WR averages $25M/yr. My guess is Pickens gets something in that range. Worth it, or better to spend that money on defensive depth?

$28 million for the season and you’re a free agent again isn’t a bad situation for him. He may prefer it. The price for a top NFL wide receiver will be significant in 2027.
Yep. His price will only go up. He’s betting on himself now what’s one more year for a guy who’s been relatively healthy?

Now I'm waiting on ESPN to chime in to imply some sort of wrong treatment or mishandling of the Pickens extension. Just wait.

Nice, okay cool. I have trust issues with Jerry for obvious reasons. But I believe you, and a couple others, who say the reality is we could sign him and fix the defense. I feel you guys know the cap better than me so I trust what you guys are saying.

Has Jerry Jones indicated he definitely wants to sign Pickens to a subsequent deal?

If we could get a 2nd or 1st rounder for him next week I would love that. This team isn’t going anywhere this year and he’s gone next year.
I'd pay Pickens and continue the experiment. All we need is a barely average defense and this team could be dangerous.

I think Pickens and his agent know that the franchise tag is the most likely outcome here. He's got good chemistry with Dak and CeeDee -- he is going to make much more with back-to-back big seasons. He spent his first three years with garbage at QB. He was frustrated and raised some red flags with his behavior. I am thinking that he might need another year to really establish himself as a premium free agent.

Staying here for another year is going to make him better money down the line.
