Jerry needs to extend Pickens now. If not, yes they could tag him and work out a long term deal. They will have the cap space to do so.
If they allow him to leave via FA, some team will get a steal. And Dallas left in the same situation, needing a WR and a RB.
The all they really need on offense is a dynamic young RB if they can keep Pickens.

All other emphasis needs to be on defense.

The difference in the offense having a second real impact receiver is undeniable. They need to keep Pickens and then like you said, just push all of their resources into the defense for the next two offseasons.

People get a very high draft pick putting a first or second round tender on this guy on a franchise tag but let him seek a trade and let him go And then all those resources can be used mostly on defense but you can get a starting wide receiver in the first two rounds of this draft maybe even in the first round with the lower 1st round draft pick and have a rookie for five years at a small amount that is how you rebuild your defense is put that money into the defense not George I want him back sure for about 29 million at at most and he's not playing for that..

Will easily get 32 to 36 somewhere else...

If the season continues to go south, why would you pay him? We're not a contender. Franchise him. If he has a big year, he'd have trade value comparable to DK Metcalf, who brought a 2nd. IMO, the next 2 drafts are very good, having an extra 2nd in one of them would be a boon. At least until our clownshow front office blows the pick on a project like Williams or Kneeland.

Let's be real... Pickens wants to get paid. He's going to be offered life-changing, generational money, and with the nature of the NFL, this may be his only shot at it.

Winning is cool, but he'd probably suit up for the Titans for the right offer. In 20 years, nobody's going to care whether he won or lost. He'll just be a " 'member when " for some dudes in a sports bar. But if Pickens plays his cards right, he'll still have a bucket of money.

I never said first rounder nor did I insinuate even more...,I said trade him for a draft pick.... You can't sign him and then trade him because of any deal the bonus is going to be dumped on your salary cap... If Dallas loses the next two weeks, trade him for draft pick, I don't care if it's a third or fourth round pick and then if Dallas wants, they can sign him in the offseason but they'd still acquire a draft pick...Dallas isn't going anywhere, they need to acquire as many picks to reload because I could cut five guys off this roster in a heartbeat NOW..

With the talent that Pickens has you have to sign him , it is a no brainer to keep him and CeeDee together. Then you are elite at wide receiver and Dallas can concentrate on building the defense and strengthening the rest of the team.

Well, it is clear that Pickens stole the above's lunch money, so he has a hate on for him. Now, the answer to our problems on D is to use one of our 1st/2nd round picks next year on a WR yet we have "developmental" WRs that can step in and do the same thing Pickens is doing. I have looked all over for where Pickens has said he is not respected in the NFL, and wants the notoriety of a WR1. Does anybody have that link? I guess Pickens is also a liar when he spoke yesterday, saying he wants to go to a "winning" team.......lord give me strength
