Dallas vs the Saints will be a Physical vs a finesse match up.

What I hope, which is what many on here probably fear, is that they spread us out and not leave Drew Brees any extra blockers.

If they can block our front 7 and still run those 5 step drops than i'll give them credit but I have a feeling our pass rush is going to dictate the game and force them to shortin their passing game and leave people in to block.

Saints fan here. I think the Saints/Cowboys game will be a great game, but both teams do have some work in the next 2 weeks.

Anyway...

You're not too accurate in your assessment of the Saints this year. They do some 5 step drops and empty backfields, but they also run way more 3 step drops, screens, draws and shotgun formations, and they even max protect a good bit. Honestly, they aren't as much of a "spread" team as say, the Patriots.

They are also 5th in the league in rushing, and both Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell are pretty physical.

If there is a way to beat the Saints offense it is mixing up pressure...Brees does not like pressure up the middle, he likes to step up in the pocket. Jam recievers, try and get Brees to step back or to the side, and limit the running game. I don't think it really can be done, but that's what I would do I guess.

Did we beat the Giants and Chargers already?

Jeez, talk about sodomizing your chickens before they hatch...

No kidding.

This thread should be cryogenically frozen until next week.

yes im sure thats what the coaching staff is thinking too... lets go play like its preseason guys. were going to keep everything basic and get rolled. what if we go out there play lights out win and its not luck? then we know we CAN beat them. i like that choice right there. all you people who want to hold back are nuts, just like stanback yea we were waiting to unleash him... i mean release him to the pats.

Sorry but I am going to have to reference the Giants SB run on this one.

They played the Patriots hard. They didnt appear to hold back.
They played Pats in SB hard and won.

Dont hold anything back.

If We dont beat the Giants then all this vanilla crap will go out the window. If anything it should never be into consideration unless you play them in a game that doesnt mean anything and you know for a fact you will face them again in the playoffs.

Right now we're not gooing to face the Saints...If We make it we face the pack or Philly. Concentrate on those teams. If We win out and have the division on lock, then you can have this vanilla talk against the eagles.

Forget the Saints.

The two games the Cowboys must win are against the Giants and the Chargers. That puts the team at 10-3. The Saints game won't be as important because they'll probably be 13-0 at that time with a much more softer schedule than the Cowboys. We can play vanilla against the Saints, having already, essentially, secured a playoff spot, with games against Washington and Philly remaining. I expect Philly to lose at least two more games by the time we see them again.

Maybe even the Philly game won't be so important. At least I hope.

I think we should try to control the clock and keep Brees off the field with the running game and come after Brees when he is on the field with lots of blitzes.

After the whuppin that the Saints put on the Patriots on Monday night, I think the Cowboys should play hard-nosed, vanilla plays against them, put some pressure on Brees, but don't do anything really unpredictable.

There's a reasonable chance that Dallas will have to play them twice, and I don't see us getting a suprise win in the regular season and then beating them again in a playoff game.

Save all your chips for the big one, play vanilla, vanilla, vanilla against them in the regular season.

...a reasonable chance?...okay...but at #3 that first means beating Minnesota on the road...i would say Dallas needs 2 of the next 3 games and considering the beatdown of NE i think NYG and SD are the easier ones to get...i'm perplexed by some who think that Dallas has a better chance of beating NO in the Superdome rather than SD at home...i don't get this and i think that more than a few Dallas fans still don't think highly of the Saints...this is VERY likely to change real soon...

Dallas still has three major problems on offense...third down conversions, Roy Williams and pass protection...you're not going to take that to New Orleans and get a win...not even close and i don't think that JG can outduel Payton in the Superdome or anywhere else for that matter...

I expect Dallas to go all out in the game, if we make post season and face them then so be it but Dallas can't afford to not go all out in each and every game especially against a quality team.

BEAT the saints with a vanilla playbook!

Why do I feel like I'm the only one who believes this is doable?

EXACTLY!!!

Dallas should play to win with vanilla. I think most people missed that point from my leading posts.

But they need to leave some exotic blitzes and plays unused to this point for the reasonable chance we play them in the playoffs. We are not the supercharged team that the Cowboys were in the early 90's, we may only beat the Saints once if we play them 10 times.

We just have to make sure that the ONCE is in the PLAYOFFS.

(If we get there... I'll acknowledge that.)

To others who have posted.

Oh, great point about the Giants recent Super Bowl run. It is a hole in my theory, and I appreciate your comments.

I like looking at the different points of view on this. I NEED to see a playoff win, bottom line... THIS YEAR!

Saints are too good to just be vanilla and expect to beat them. We have to play these games before we make the playoffs.

you know whats funny..i thought about this as well, but I was thinkin the opposite for the playoffs. In the playoffs I was thinking ram it down there throats. Use the three backs, keep brees of the field, and speed the game up by slowing it down.

Yeah, that's a great point. We can't play them the same way twice, so how ever we decide to try to beat them the first game, use a different approach (and more effective and suited to our team skillset) in the playoffs.

The guy throws 75 yard completions. He doesnt have to be on the field long to score.

As odd it may sound, you have to stop the run first to even have a chance against the Saints. Their improved power running game is what makes them really difficult to defend. Make them one-dimensional offensively, wich gives the defense more of an opportunity to play more coverage and rush the passer. And obviously, no big plays.

Offensively, you have to find a way to get in the end zone. It's that simple. And dont turn the ball over. Their D is designed to create turnovers but they will give up yardage, so you've got to make them pay.

and only 3 were in 07.......

Things have changed since 07. Stop living in the past
For all of Garrett faults he has the 4th ranked offense and has done so with only 2 #1's on the offensive side of the ball Felix Jones and Roy Williams. He must be doing something right.

who cares about that? Belicheat won 3 superbowls with a 7th round qb. Bobby Carpenter was a 1st rounder.
