It's nice when the dominoes fall as they're supposed to. Relief and excitement dripped from the draft room all weekend.

Taco wasn't their first choice to be first choice, but he was the best choice given the position allotments of this draft. I think Kevin King was higher on their board at that point, but with pass-rushing ends drying up quickly, Taco time was upon them.

Then, magic happened. Awuzie had a first -round grade, and Lewis a second. Both were nabbed at bargain-round rates. Two sticky-fingered corners with young legs to join last year's surprise, Anthony Brown, and suddenly the corner corps looks promising, healthy, and different.

But that wasn't all. After Ryan Switzer fell far later than Dallas expected him to, they gritted their teeth and walked away from Xavier Woods to take Switzer, and you could see the excitement in their faces to get a guy they didn't think would be anywhere near them in the 4th round.

But...lo and behold, the sixth rolls around and Woods is still there! Went up and got 'em, they did. How glorious was that?

So next year's potential defensive impact additions include:

Jaylon Smith
Charles Tapper
Demarcus Lawrence (healthy hopefully)
Taco Charlton
Cheetoh Awuzie
Jourdan Lewis
Xavier Woods

And if Jeff Heath can play.....

I'm hopeful for the defense for the first time in a good while.

Just my opinion here but I think Heath can and will play this year. Put on the pads boys its time to get this ball rolling!

Here's what I think, I think: Heath will be the traditional in the box SS on early downs and in obvious running situations. 3rd and long, Xavier Woods will take his place deep, in consideration of his ball skills. I've never been a fan of showing your hand by playing situational players, but in that particular case, I think it makes the most amount of sense.

Perhaps. But Heath has done well in coverage the past couple of years. He has very good range. Could see them subbing them both in and out, and possibly playing at the same time depending on the situation and Jones moving up to cover the TE.

In the day 3 presser, SJ said they drafted 3 folks with 2nd round grades. I'm guessing Taco, Cheeto, Lewis. Then he said they wouldn't get into grades as that doesn't accomplish anything. Later came back and said they got 5 of their top 68 folks.

Heath absolutely does, but in terms of Zone/Man Coverage, I would have to give the nod to Woods. Heath is more of an enforcer. And, don't get me wrong, I love seeing him lay people out when they test the middle ground he is covering. But if he's tackling them, he's a step too late. At the end of the day, I'd rather see an interception/incompletion, than an Heath stain on the field.

I'm happy with our draft picks. We filled needs as well as took best player available. I have to remind myself that we only have a limited number of picks. I wish coulda ... this and that, doesn't apply.

I think we brought in some guns for the next 3-4 years.

If we can get over the hump and string together a few playoff wins, then this would be a tremendous success.

Great post. Don't think they were shocked Switzer was there though. Feels about right for him, maybe even high (as far as projections go). It was reported to be between him and Pumphrey, with the Eagles making the decision for us.

I liked the Switzer pick, but I was BEGGING for them to grab Desmond King there. When they grabbed Woods in the 6th I couldn't believe it. So awesome.

Will be interesting to see once they put on the pads. Not going to complain about the extra preseason game this year with all these guys fighting for a spot and Smith and Tapper's redshirt season.

Woods was also in the discussion with Switzer.

' Heath stain',,, funny stuff!
But setting the tone has a beauty unto itself,,,kinda like the guys who didn't want to line up opposite of Larry Allen.

Imagine Dez/Williams with two Beasleys and a Zeke. That look will cause some problems.

Oh you don't have to sell me brother, I love it. I meant to say that when they grabbed Switzer and backdoored it with Woods that made me love the pick even more. He's awesome

I wouldn't be surprised if Taco Charlton isn't the worst of the top five picks. He'll probably be very Marcus Spears-ish.
