That's the one I will be watching and judging Charlton against too. They could have had either one and made the choice to take Charlton. I can respect their decision even if I disagree with it. But now there's a clear barometer of success or failure. If Charlton is what they hope, great, better for everyone, and they were right and I was wrong. If Watt is better, they blew it and deserve any criticism they get.

I hope they're right.
I was pro-Watt as well. Did not hate Taco, but just preferred Watt. I do think it is interesting that Atlanta traded up and selected Takk. So two 4-3 teams who needed DE help took players over Watt. We will never find out, but I wonder if most 4-3 teams considered Watt a 3-4 OLB.

You could make the same case with Takk. Watt is actually bigger than Takk. Atlanta isn't a traditional 4-3 team, though. They have some 3-4 looks incorporated in with a LEO who Dan Quinn just kind of moves around like a chess piece both on and off the LOS.

Moreso than other teams, it seems that on the Cowboys rookies do NOT supplant the veterans unless they are head and shoulders above them. I don't see that being the case with Woods. He may be good but I doubt he is good enough to make Heath look like a scrub.
He will push Heath inmediately on pure talent alone. If he's already in the playbook and comes to camp half ready from a mental standpoint, lookout!

I ask this: How big was the 4-3 Falcons' best pass rusher last year? The guy who led the league in sacks I believe.

This I totally agree with. As stated by Stephan, when he is on the field he makes plays. People have to remove that Detroit game in his rookie year out of the equation and I think his play per downs played might be better then anyone else we have had at that position on our roster in a while.

But as stated there must be a reason he hadn't seen the field more.

It's kind of the arc they like to see for their Ss. Church was the same way, going from roster longshot to ST contributor to defensive contributor to starter to captain.

The scouts are reportedly fairly high on Frazier, too, and he's on that same trajectory. Woods will be competing more with Frazier for reps on big ST and defense than he will with Heath.

Yes I heard that also. I think it was on Talking Cowboys or The Break. They said that the scouts were a little disappointed that he didn't get more playing time last year to show what he's got.

Well I guess he will have his chance over the next 5-months.

Yeah, I should have caveated that that came from Broaddus, I think. But it's good news that they seem to think they have a couple guys in Woods and Frasier who can play behind the starters. And it bodes well for STs, too.

I'm excited about having a pair of Ss with range for the first time in I don't know how long. I liked Church a fair bit for what he was, because he was consistent and he generally was a good tackler, but they definitely had to work around his lack of range. If Heath steps up and the CBs can play and we finally have LBs who can get deep enough to make the over-the-middle stuff difficult and not just a pitch and catch, defense can start to be fun to watch again. It's been so long since our defense has been fun to watch. I hate it.
