Playing an NFL game with only 3 days rest is a disgrace

and I've been saying it for years. Yeah, some of us were disappointed with the Oline today or Dak in the first half but these guys aren't cyborgs fer crissakes even though they look like one. So how did Buffalo and the LIons look today? Pretty sloppy overall and the Bills jerked around and almost lost so....there ya go. But seriously, making these guys play with 3 days rest is borderline inhumane.

I have no idea why people complain about Thursday football, as it isn’t going anywhere. I’m 61 and have been watching games played on Thursday for over half a century. You aren’t a player and you don’t own a team. Those are the only groups who have a say about whether Thursday games will continue being played. They’ve spoken, and they do it for the money. It’s their actual business and the way they make their living, not yours.

The Bills and Patriots both played road games today and neither played the Cowboys. They play each other next Thursday.

Oh good.. It's usually the Cowboys that end up playing the Thursday-Thursday.. So they decided to screw the Bills and the Pats this year.. Good.. At least they had them both playing today.. Can you imagine if one of the Thursday teams was on a bye while the other just plays Sunday Thursday then Thursday again?

Some lady, I forget her name now, but she made a suggestion that makes sense. Have only teams coming off a bye week play on Thursday. But in order to do that, they'd have to add another bye week.

If they add another bye week, that pushes the Super Bowl up one week. But the Monday following Super Bowl Sunday would be President's Day. A holiday. :)

They'll add another bye week when they add the 18th game, which is coming. Twenty weekends of regular season NFL football is inevitable.

Before anyone freaks out, the CFL has been doing it this way for years. No one has died as a result of it.

You could've just admitted you were wrong and moved on. We're all wrong sometimes, myself included.

Jerry is smart enough to NOT make a pitch to rotate out of the Thanksgiving game.

As long as the opponent also played Sunday, it's an advantage because we're always at home. It's also a massive attention-getter, which every team wants.
That's why I don't think Jerry is smart enough. He is more concerned about team exposure than protecting his players. Jerry is all about the brand and he being the smartest guy in the room. Some advantage, wining one of the last four.

Why stop at protecting players by getting rid of Thursday games? The most effective way to keep players safe from game-related injuries is to do away with professional football.

Football isn't a safe game. And while I think that the league has done a lot to improve player safety, there is some inherent risk in running as fast as you can into other person 30 or 40 times in a 3 hour span.

Bbbut, Goodell is really concerned about Player safety. I wish Jerry was smart enough to make a pitch to rotate out of the Thanksgiving game.
No way. Thanksgiving and a Cowboys game go together. Don't change that!!

yeah, we should have a break from football about halfway through the season. They could come back in January or February after the guys heal.

Jerry loves the Thanksgiving Day game. He likes to see acts like the Jonas Brothers at his stadium.

I've always felt like it was a disadvantage to the Cowboys and Lions for decades until they started making all teams play on Thursday. But you're absolutely right. These Thursday games have got to be brutal on these guys.

I've never played in the NFL, but I've played against guys that have played in NFL games before when I played a couple years of semi-pro and I know how my body felt after those games.... I couldn't imagine having to suit up on Thursday to do it again off of 3 days rest.

Again, these NFL athletes are on a whole different level than semi-pro, but I don't think it's cool to play these Thursday games. It's entertaining for us all, but it's not fair to those guys bodies.

Oh I absolutely was wrong that they were doing it to someone other than the Cowboys this year. I was not wrong that the Cowboys and their Thursday night opponent are USUALLY the only ones that get screwed on the 4 games in 19 days crunch. This year they screwed the Bills and Patriots. I will go on record now stating I don't think either of them will have a good December/January as a result. Their bodies will be too beat up and there is not enough time to recover this late in the season. Even if the Bills win their division I'm thinking KC gets the bye and sits home watching that first weekend of the playoffs while the Bills have to deal with some physical defensive team like Miami or the Jets coming to town. They probably win the game, but it will exact a toll. Of course they could also get lucky and have to host somebody like Cincy.. who IMHO is one of the least physical teams in the league. At least of the ones in playoff contention.

Gawd that was painful to sit through. Jerry has officially turned the Thanksgiving halftime show into the SB halftime show.

Only two teams have to do TWO Thursday games. The Cowboys and their other Thursday opponent. Also the Thursday NIGHT game is not the same.. (Though it still sucks too.) Those extra 4-8 hours of rest make a huge difference. For one thing it allows a full day of practice the day before the game AND a full day of rest.

This year, maybe. That’s not every year. Everyone who plays Thursday also played the previous Sunday.

It’s not an issue. Equal terms are equal terms. Now Dallas gets 10 days rest. I guess if you don’t like it then send a card to Santa and ask him to have Jerry opt out of the annual Thanksgiving game.

Maybe they should schedule teams to only play the thurs after their bye weeks kinda thing, the league is always claiming it cares about players health, it shouldn't be difficult to jiggle the schedule to make it possible.
