Can't wait, they showed some incredible stuff today. I doubt I buy it at release but I'm definitely going PS4. I'm pissed at Microsoft.

I'm not sure why this wasn't part of the company's presentation yesterday. Maybe they left it out because it simply matched Microsoft, instead of under-cutting it.

But hey, the PS4 has a 500GB hard drive.

The tidbit was revealed in a media release sent out by Sony after its press conference had wound down, which also let us know that the PS4 camera would be sold separately for $59, as it's listed in the "accessories" section of the release, while being left out of the "included" (surely a big reason why the PS4 was able to be $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, which includes a Kinect).

You do, however, get a mono headset and HDMI cable with every PS4 sold, the latter being always welcome with a HD system.

8 core processor and 8 gigs of GDDR5.

XBone will be using GDDR3 (8 gigs) and have a lower GPU.

I've been on the xbox platform for years. I'm pretty sure that changes when the next gen consoles release.

It's a no brainer at this point. Microsoft really screwed up this time.

I have both a PS3 and Xbox right now and haven't turned my XBox on in over a year. Glad I didn't sell it since it's probably the last xbox I'll ever buy. I AM however glad I never upgraded my PS3 to the slim one (still have the original fat model) cause I'll be getting a PS4.

I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to hardware, so can anyone tell me what I'm looking at here?

Why exactly is PS4 a slam dunk over Xbox one? (it's not hard to imagine, just looking for specifics).

--The Xbox One costs $100 more.

--The Xbox One requires you to check-in via internet once a day, every day. This includes playing single player games. No internet, no play.

--The Xbox One kinect can determine the number of people in the room and possibly charge you for having excessive viewers/gamers.

--Some people are also concerned that the Xbox One audio is constantly listening to you due to the voice command options.

--Used games: Xbox One will let the publisher charge a fee in order for you to borrow a friends game and play it.

Well at this point obviously the PS4 will be better than the One but I am a little disappointed with the "next gen" consoles.

I am actually going to throw an additional request on this to see if some of you "in the know" folks might be able to help me figure out our next family Christmas gift. I have a 9 and 6 year old in the house. What are the differences between these new ones and the Wii U?

My 6 year old Daughter wants the Wii U obviously

My son is openly wanting the new X-Box for Minecraft

I just want to be able to play the new Batman and Rocksmith, but Blu Ray and streaming would be pretty awesome.

Anybody that can throw some thoughts my way would be really appreciated.

I HIGHLY advise staying away from the Xbox one completely. If your son wants to play Minecraft just go with the Xbox 360 (last gen). It will be cheaper and it doesn't suck as much as the One. Or just buy him minecraft online on the PC and save $500.

The Wii U in my opinion is all for kids. I can't imagine adults playing it.

The PS4 is good but if you have no real use for gaming I would just go with the PS3. Around Christmas the PS3 will be much cheaper and Sony will still support it for 5 more years. Plus you don't have to pay extra fees to just play online.

In your case I am just guessing that you yourself and your family are not hardcore gamers and for that reason I would stick with the current gen if you're willing to save hundreds of dollars. Get your son minecraft online and get the PS3 for yourself.

Definately will be going with the PS4.

I'll likely trade my 360 and stuff in toward it when the time comes.

XBox got their stuff handed to them on this one.

Thanks. $100 less. That's a nice start.

I understand the biggest concerns with the Xbox one being more of an all in one entertainment center with seemingly a lack of focus on gaming and a ridiculous money hungry drive, just didn't know if the PS4 was actually going to be better.

As long as they've stuck to just making a gaming console with a few nice touches on the home screen (netflix capability, ability to stream movies) then that's all I need.

My son is the serious gamer. He has outgrown the Wii and is burning up the PS3 and computer now. The rest of us are pretty casual. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm disappointed too, based on what I know at least. But then again I saw this coming.

Going from a NES to Sega Genesis/SNES was quite a jump.

Then going from the Sega/SNES to Playstation was a mindblowing jump. And then going from the PS1 to PS2 was just about equally impressive. Overall it was more like the PS2 was a march toward a perfected PS1 rather than the completely groundbreaking aspects between the Sega/SNES to the PS1.

But after the original XBox and PS2, I started to question, how much more impressive the systems could get? And while XBox 360 and the PS3 were still a notable improvement over the previous gen systems, it definitely wasn't like any of the previous jumps before. Sure online gaming became simpler and the graphics looked nicer, but where was there to go from there? How much better could the graphics get?

From the screen shots, it just doesn't appear like the graphics are THAT much better (actually, as of now I can't distinguish a 360 and a One screen shot if they aren't labeled).

On top of that, it seems like the gaming industry has become a lot less pure (as with any other industry over time). The goal isn't to create something enjoyable, it's to create something that can continuously gouge its customers' pocket books even after initial purchase. And in doing so, the industry has gotten off track and lost touch with its demographic.

Honestly, the next gen consoles seem completely unnecessary from a customer stand point. But from their standpoint, it's the fiscal stimulant of 'new being better'.

I'll probably buy one of these consoles because they'll eventually stop making games for the ones I have now, but I'm not buying out of any type of excitement, but rather obligation.
