Today's weekly recap virtually wrote itself. That is, until Orlando Scandrick stole every ounce of my thunder in the postgame. Dang it, Scandy, that's what I was going to say!
I really didn't want to have to think hard this cold morning, so by golly, I won't.
He was right. I've never heard so much sqwawking and chest-beating from a 4-6 team teetering on elimination after beating such NFL greats as the recent outcast Josh Freeman, the free-tattoo-seeking Terrelle Pryor, third-string rookie Matt Barkley, and previously unknown Scott Tolzien. And Cruz wasn't quite as uncoverable as Ditka claimed...two catches and a fumble for a TD ain't exactly uncoverable. (Was it Ditka, Mariucci, or......doesn't matter, the point is made.)
JPP asked for bloodshed, and he drank his own. Terrell Thomas guaranteed a victory, and he's making offseason vacation plans today with five games still left. Justin Tuck was all over Dallas and national radio last week, and I'm not sure if he was there or not yesterday. Maybe he got stuck in traffic. I saw Cullen Jenkins, but Tuck was a mere speed bump.
And not only was Scandy right, he's playing some awfully good football this year. Best year he's had by far.
For you Garrett bashers, I give you Tom Coughlin yesterday. And I really like Coughlin as a coach. Dallas could not stop the Giants rushing attack, and yet, he still insisted on throwing the ball as drives wore on, as if he was getting bored pushing around the Dallas interior lineman and Ernie Sims. Sean Lee was GREATLY missed yesterday. Garrett would get shredded for that yesterday (although he did worry me with those late knees; I wanted to get closer for Bailey).
And for you Romo bashers, Tony did it again yesterday with a ton on the line and in the toughest of road conditions (yeah, let's play a Super Bowl in that mess; good thinking, nimrods). He pulled that win out the same he did against Minnesota and so many games in recent years, yet many will only remember one throw against Denver in a 500-yard performance.
Let's see, what else? Oh yeah.
HOLY MOLY, DURING THE BYE WEEK, WE TAUGHT DEZ THE SLOT!!!!
Getting Dez moving around is critical. Teams are locked in on him. Having Miles out there was helpful, despite his quiet game until the catch in the fourth. He really does command attention, whether you throw him the ball or not. And Witten, as he always does, tore up the Giants at key moments.
Dez caught that ball on the five, I'm sorry. And that call that took away our early fumble recover was....the leavings of a large farm animal. I thought the officiating both ways, but mostly against Dallas, was just awful. Point is, it could have been worse.
So here we are, in soooooo much better shape than 48 hours ago. It's a two-team race now, especially after the 49ers destroy Washington tonight.
And here's the best part. Dallas is 4-0 in the division, and Philly is 3-2 with a loss to the Cowboys already. The tie-breaker is practically Dallas' already.
Next step is to beat Oakland and get to 7-5, and take this vagabond band of gypsies, thieves, and tramps to the playoffs. And I say that with the greatest degree of affection.
And some parting words for the Giants.....um, that's 3 out of 4 against you, you were 0-6 for a reason, now you're a fart in a whirlwind, your annual trashtalk is tiresome and cheap, so for the love of peet......STHU!!
