with this defense with no pass rush and the same db's I agree they are not going to win one soon they fumbled away a great opportunity in 2014 when you are there you have to make the plays otherwise you may never get back.

In the era of salary caps and free agency, coaching is the 'X' factor that makes you a SB contender or not.

You need a QB. Yes.

But the Patriots don't win 4 SBs and go the playoffs every year without Belichick.

And if you screw up the cap and pull in mediocre free agents, like the Cowboys have done excluding the most recent years for the most part, nothing can save you. Big boys with big toys.

Btw. Draft is hit and miss. Always has been. That's why its the Patriot's goal to go into the Draft with as many picks as possible. Others are starting to get down with that.

Cowboys should do the same. And I think they are. So we'll see.

Its been over 20years since this team won a Superbowl....Amazing how many excuses fans have for the Cowboys failures. If only Ifs, and, buts won Superbowls, Cowboys would be champions once again. Love the Cowboys but I stopped drinking the Cowboys KoolAid years ago. Just happy to see the team be competitive now days, all while the Jones' continue stuff billions of dollars in their pockets from a losing team. Cowboys success is based off revenue generated not championship, its all about the business.

I'll take my chances building a defense than wasting picks on running backs and wide receiver early.

It's very rare that a team can win a Super Bowl without at least being around the league average defensively.

Those Rams teams had a pretty good pass rush.

Good post

We also lost the offensive player of the year, and an 1800 yard rusher and didnt adequately replace him. With him our identity. I think we would have been a PO team with Romo and Bryant all year, but I dont think we would have been as good as 2014. Our identity was physical ball football and we lost it.

Yep. Yet some people say Dmac was 4th in rushing and not a drop off, etc. Yeah, ok.

McFadden did very well VS some teams. Poorly VS others. We got a solid out put out of him, but he was far from consistent

A Strong QB (or a stretch of strong QB play) is generally a prerequisite to make it to the Superbowl. There aren't many awful QBs getting to the Superbowl.

Consequently, odds are that the final 4-8 teams will all have adequate QBs to get the job done. That being the case, the difference ultimately comes down to the other pieces around the QB. People say, "defense wins championships", but that is with the implied understanding that only teams with good QBs will be in the mix for a championship.

Between 2 comparable QBs, which team is going to win? I'll wager the team with the better defense.

Yes would have won the game had it been a catch and not dropped. .....which makes it dropping the game winner

That wasn't the last play of the game and would have only tied the game. No, that was not a game-winning play. Game-changing? Yes.

Taking Franco or Swann away Steelers still win SBs....defense was tremendous plus offense had great depth.

The Steelers may have had great depth but Franco and Swann were two of their top offensive players during the 70s who won SB MVP awards. They still would have won Super Bowl's but not all 4 of them. No way would they have beaten the Cowboys in SB X without Swann's MVP performance.

The Steelers was lucky.

It takes a lot more than luck to win 4 SB's in 6 years with both wins back to back. Wasn't easy coming out on top as the team of the 70's with 3 great teams winning multiple SB's during that decade.

Luck !!!!

So you're saying they didn't have great teams? They beat two of the best Cowboys teams of the 70s led by Roger Staubach and one of those teams was the defending Super Bowl champions. Three of the Steelers 4 SB wins during the 70s came against teams that had HOF QBs. The Steel Curtain defense was one of the greatest defenses in NFL history. You don't get lucky winning 4 Super Bowl's with virtually the same core group of players. You need to remove your FAN cap.
