Is is news because she had a cell phone? What if it was burger, or drink, is it news worthy then. This campaign against distracted driving (cell phones) is absurd a study showed the stigma of distracted driving, again cellphones, is one of the low hanging fruit variety. Studies have shown accidents with distractions cellphones are pretty far down the list, near the top eating, drinking, radio and kids in the back seat.
If I dropped a burger on the ground I'd be willing to take my hands off the wheel and eyes off the road for 5 whole secondsShe was shooting a video of her baby in the front seat and dropped the phone, which prompted her to take both hands off and end the video just 1.42 seconds before hitting the teens. I'm not sure how you can relate that to eating or drinking or doing much of anything else. Show me the study that proves the act of eating or tuning the radio is worse than what she did.
If you don't think texting or taking a video with your cell phone while driving is extremely distracting then you need help.
Where did I say that. My comment was if it was not a cell phone would she receive the same amount of scorn. Distracted driving is distracted driving I agree. I see people do stupider crap than using a cellphone while driving. I saw a chck putting in her contacts, a dude shaving, a dude reading the paper, another trying to reach into the back seat. A cellphone is only scornful because it is the only thing that can be proven by use of other technology.
She might not have, but this is a whole 'nother level of stupidity. Distracted driving is bad, but a cigarette falling in your life, making you look away briefly, is at least mildly undertandable. All distractions aren't equal. But texting, videotaping, and driving with no hands warrants every bit of scorn a person can muster.
So if she was double fisting a big mac not as bad as cell phone. Got it, some distracted driving is more acceptable than others. Again not condoning the behavior just saying distracted driving has been around as long as driving has been around. I am willing to bet 100% of the people here have gotten home without consciously remembering how they got home, not drunk driving, call it auto pilot because of a stressful day or something else.

if you cannot see the difference...So if she was double fisting a big mac not as bad as cell phone. Got it, some distracted driving is more acceptable than others. I am not saying distracted driving is not bad or that this person should be given a pass. If she had spilled a drink in her lap would there have been the same scorn.
Handsfree technology cars are considered even far more of hazard than handsfree headsets or using a phone non hands free

NOTE: Please be advised that this study used NHTSA Crashworthiness Data System (CDS) data from 1995 through 1999. The use of cell phones and other electronic media by drivers has increased greatly in the last 15 years. According to the CTIA-The Wireless Association, there were 276.6 million wireless subscribers in the US in June 2009, compared to 97 million in June 2000.
I would imagine if they did the same test with the last 4 years used instead of 95-99...the use of Cell Phones (talking and or texting) would be much greater.
