Poll: Should Jerry Hire a GM or not?

Yes Jerry should hire one of the better GMs in the league and learn more. He can always remove them later if he gets the hebbie jeebies.

I'm a little shocked at this poll. Normally I have a decent feel for the results before I vote. Not this one. Good poll question!

I don't think it really matters if he defers to his son, Jeff Ireland and the scouts in personnel decisions, and Wade and the coaches in game-day decisions

Yeah, Jerry certainly still exerts control. But it's a slow, yearly process of him giving up control.

It wouldn't necessarily be two GMs. Stephen would be the GM. He's not going to just give up being as involved as he is now. But then again, he isn't a personnel man. That's where Jeff comes in. Jeff on the other hand, to my knowledge, isn't a businessman. He may excel at that side of it, but I'd be reluctant to hand him a full-fledged GM role. Seems like a perfect match to me.

Stephen - GM
Jeff - Director of Personnel

he's a former scout

I think Jerry still has alot of input into personnel decisions, but he defers to Jeff alot IMO

In response to Lebreton's article, I am curious what the common sentiment is...
We all know it would never happen anyway, but should Jerry hire a GM or continue in the role himself?

I say no...I like having him in both roles and (with the exceptions of Campo's 3 seasons) do not blame the lack of success on him...

(mods, can we get a yes or no poll?)

it depends on who it is...we had a GM for the past 4yrs (Parcells, didnt have the title but he was clearly the GM) and the personnel decisions were better for the most part

but to hire a GM just to have one isnt the answer either...some GM's are terrible

Good point.

Look around the league. Good GMs are like QBs. There are not a lot to go around. There are not many options and we would be just as well served to see if Ireland can grow in his role. Anyone that would be available right now if Jones had this sudden epiphany would not be that great.

Pose the question this way:

Jerry Jones or the likes of Charlie Casserly?

Jerry Jones or Floyd Reese?

Jones might make huge errors, but as a GM, he's pretty much in the middle of the pack.

But unless you can get someone of the caliber of Ron Wolf/Scott Pioli/Bill Polian, it doesn't make sense to get one just to get one. There are not a lot of good ones around.

First let me applaud Jerry for all his success on and off the field.

But... there is an asterisk for the Cowboys SB wins.

He an Jimmy were friends.
He bought the Cowboys.

Gave Jimmy control. A REAL football man.
THAT gave him 3 SB's in 4 years.

Jerry takes over. = Drought.

Jerry gets another football guy(Parcells) and gets us going in right direction.

Jerry takes over. = ??

Hopefully history doesnt repeat itself for the latter.

should jjones get a sex change and dance at a local establishment?
should jjones give away all his money and move to cambodia and do religious work?
should jjones spend his money to become a sr citizen batman and dance on rooftops downtown late at night?

why do people ask for what is never going to happen?

we need a:

it's never gonna happen and i wish people would quit bringing i up" option.
