Sorry but their time was last year and they blew it. Love Romo but he won't stay healthy next year and it'll be a bit better than this year that's it. Consider this team in rebuilding mode for the next 5 years at least.

That just sucks because we just came off of a rebuilding. I guess we can only have one successful season followed by more rebuilding. It's a process.

Before reading your descriptions I went half full.

After reading it I don't think it represents who I am.

I'm an engineer by training and finance professional by profession.

I love cold hard analysis and if things look bleak I'll tell you so that your bridge doesn't topple over and your investment portfolio shows some returns.

I can call it like I see it and still be hopeful for better.

That's not how you have described half full sir.

Similar profession though more on the risk side. The saying is first loss is your best loss in many instances. When you see it is a losing investment, those who cut quicker usually do better than those ho are emotionally invested in hope.

I would narrow it down to two different kinds of fans. In all fan bases, we're not special.

1) Those that look for reasons to paint the picture they want to see every year. Regardless of the actual state of the team. Their opinions are programmed and predictable. These people are often times overly sensitive to any team criticism and are probably 99.9% of the cause of any tension on a message board like this one.

2) Those that determine their own optimism and pessimism on their own evaluation of the state of the team. They may be right or wrong, but they are not letting laundry cloud their vision. I tend to take these folks far more seriously than the former even if I staunchly disagree with their stance on any issue.

This is 100% spot on.

I always find it remarkable that there is such a need to label fans who watch and opine on a game played millionaire professional athletes coached by people only known from afar, etc. Whether I read that "Barry Church is Kam Chancellor" thread, or "Garrett is ******** thread", my time is invested in watching the team from a hold over childhood nostalgia. This is pretty similar to me going to see KISS, Van Halen, or GnR now. I enjoy doing it and spending my directional time and dollars recapturing that 2-3 hours of lost innocence and naivety of youth.

Reading some youtube comment about how Axl is fat and an ******* doesnt affect my time on it. Sometimes there are valid justifications for a flippant comment, sometimes the flippant comment is true on its face. At the end of the day, I shut it off and dont let anonymous opinions ruin my day if someone differs than mine and cant provide rationale. They owe me none. Those that do, its appreciated and we move on.

Way too many here act like my tween niece. She said this and she's done this and i dont like her for wearing this. Really wierd

I like the fan that is actually recognizing what is being seen by everyone, about everyone and everything with the team. One of the biggest problems has been denial.....ranging from JJ snake oil tactics, JG security, Romo being the savior, Witten the hero, Dez the bad guy, and Hardy the Public Enemy No 1, to name a few. The team lacks a lot of talent, savors hype, and harbors marginal players from bad evaluations compounded by terrible coaching.

Option #5: The objective glass: Being able to recognize a mule all day and persistent in failing to call it a racehorse , despite any type of persuasion or demand.

Love the subtlety. Here, let's reword that.

This is fun.

There's no good reason why people's expectations ought to determine the kinds of fans they are. I don't like even categorizing them on that basis.

The real differentiator is the way in which different people handle disappointment. We all handle excitement similarly. But when we don't get what we want or what we expect, the real differences come out.

Nobody's happy with the outcome of this season, no matter how empty or full their glass usually is.

First Idgit i like your post. Not because i agree with it (all of it) but because it animates me to think about what you wrote. And to me its worth spending time to think about the influences that shape peoples behaviours.

I think there is a correlation between peoples expectations and their acting as fans. Expectations of course emerge from the success or failure of whatever you are cheering for. But not only from that. Some people may have low expectations even when their team has success. Others have high ones even when their team is losing. There are also expectations for short-dated success (like winning the next game) or long-time success (like winning the SB in 2018). How can that be explained ?
Those differences (to me) originate from peoples character and upbringing (school, parents, community etc...). So you are right expectations are not the reason or do not determine what kind of fans people are - of course - because this is a trivial statement: expectation is not a characteristic (trait) of a person but a "result" of their traits. Traits determine what kind of fans we are like they determine our expectations. BUT with that said you can conclude from someones expectation to what kind of fan he is. There to me is the correlation. So to me its not that simple like you wrote in your first sentence.

And it puts the initial post in a different light because the OP did not say that someone could determine fans by their expectations (like you stated). He just asked what kind of fan someone is (he ask about our traits). But he also said that someone can "drift" thru different categories. And that because the circumstances (hence his expectations) change. This is a bold statement where i cant say its right or not. I believe your expectations are bound to your character and ubringing and so their are the fundament of your future life. But then i would not say that you cant change those traits. If that wouldnt be possible it would put in question Freud, Jung, Watzlawik and every other psychologist their is.

I do like the initial post. Not because i think its sound just because i like the funny side of it. Its hard to (not possible) to categoize people without making errors. The statistic always is the death of the individual. I - for instance - cant find myself in those 4 categories. Because their descriptions dont fit the way i view myself. Still i like the survey.

There is a 5th.
The glass is tired of being labeled as if the internet labeler understands anything about what kind of fan I am.

I am for this team.
I am not afraid to discuss the good and the bad about this team.
I am not offended when someone has a differing point of view.
I am not offended when someone wishes to dream about glory.
I am not offended when someone wishes to be grounded in what that person believes is reality.

I was for this team when they took the field for the very first game against Pittsburgh in 1960,
I have bled silver and blue ever since.
But I come from a different era, which allowed for fans to not only talk about the great things the team has done, but the points of concern which might blunt an otherwise great season.

Sort of like the idea behind my brother is a turd, but if you call him a turd, you and me are going to fight.

If you feel a need to talk about only your dreams, go ahead. I am not concerned. I rejoice in your happiness, even though I might not agree.

But when you begin to label me as a type of fan you think I am, without knowing all the times I celebrated with them when they won championships, and suffered with them in years they didn't. And because I feel there are no subjects about this team which should be taboo, or a politically correct posture need be taken for those who are so weak they cannot stand hearing anything but rosey comments about the team, the coaches, the GM and the owner.

That is where I draw the line.

I have an opinion, right or wrong. Just as you do, right or wrong.

One is not more important than the other.

Until you begin to tell me how to be a fan.

There is a great deal of political correctness surrounding this team.

I'm not much of a fan of this, or losing with honor, or meaningful losses. I prefer my team without cream and sugar.
