It’s not clear to me what the long term strategy or plan this front office is following to improve this roster. So I thought I would ask the fan base.

I occasionally hear the “soft rebuild” term thrown around, which can mean different things to different people. Others may say we are in a complete 1989 style rebuild where the roster will need to be harshly churned. While to some this front office either doesn’t have a discernible plan outside of marketing their team or is just winging it.

What say you? What’s the plan around here?

Jerry isn't going to live forever so I don't see him being committed to full rebuild, if anyones window is closing it's Jerry's. He believes he has solved the most important position which is evident by the amount of money he paid Dak so the rest is relative.

It's a real shame too because we have 4 round one picks the next two years and a good amount of cap to cut some of these disaster contracts loose but that just aint going to happen.

The only real plan this team has is that McClay loves him some Olineman in the 1st, DE’s, and Cornerbacks. They also love reclamation project former 1st rounders.

That’s the only plan I see. No real philosophy. I see what they tried to do in bringing in Flus. They tried to emulate bringing in DQ. Except they forgot that DQ had actually had success, SB DC, taking a team to a SB as HC. Flus only had a few decent defenses in Indy.

And they let DQ "pick the groceries" as Parcells used to put it. Just more of the same crap with weak coaches trapped in an organization run by the family. Don't have GMs who are capable of rebuilding the defense to a different strategy, don't have Coaches strong enough to make the Family do it, and now have a Coach set in his ways who won't adjust the defense to what works best for the talent he has.

I think with the Joneses, there is never a coherent long term strategy at play and more often than not they operate within short sighted 1-2 year windows.

Honestly, with Jerry being GM and having complete job security I would think it could have potentially been used to our advantage. While other GMs are forced into executing risky 2-3 year plans to vault into contention, Dallas has the ability to play an extremely long game to craft a perfect roster while sacrificing a few years to get there.

Unfortunately, nothing resembling a coherent plan has ever made itself evident. We get a complete hot and cold mix of win-now and tank-now moves that results in a middling roster more often than not (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2024, 2025), and an owner who is petrified of pushing in the chips and going for it all when this team is actually right there on the precipice of greatness (2014, 2016, 2021, 2022, 2023).

Why Jerry never went all out for 1 or 2 more players to put those 2020s 12 win teams over the top will always be completely astounding to me. It was all there for the taking. Instead, the window has closed and we descend into the depths of the NFL for now.

This is the same dude that cut his teeth under Marinelli. Remember the guy that thought a future HOF in Watt was too small for his D? The funny thing about this is I would take Marinelli this very instant over this bum!

Billionaires live longer than most people. I'm guessing he lives another 10 years or so and he probably thinks he'll make it to 100.

I selected full speed ahead because they have a plan.

Its the plan they've always had which is to make no dramatic changes but merely move and exchange a few of the pieces every year.

Old Zeke to Dowdle to Williams, to whoever they can get cheap next year.

Kendrick to Sanborn, to whoever else another team doesn't want.

Its full steam ahead with a side order of status quo.

Hey, why so many votes on Jerry not having a plan? This guy has it all under control.

Get ready for a master class on GM'ing the hell out of it! :muttley:

In the 30ish years since Jimmy, I have never seen Jerry have any semblance of a plan. All he wants to do is get 3 or 4 top level stars. After that, it's always been whatever. There is just so much about NFL football that Jerry doesn't have an inkling of an understanding about. He's so much worse as a GM than most understand.
