This poll was started AFTER it had already been announced that Romo was retiring and joining CBS and some still voted he would be playing football in 2017? Some of those 22 names on that list don't surprise me because I know from past discussions with them how out of touch with reality they are. Don't bother asking any of them for lottery numbers.

I don't think he plays this year, even if Dak goes down. I think Romo is a man of his word. He signed a contract and told everyone he was done. I believe him. I would love it if he did come back or to another team but I just don't see it happening, sadly.

If Dak goes down I look at Romo possibly coming in and playing. He still has game in him, i think he has 1-2 years in his body. However taking the CBS job is probably the best thing for him. So Dak goes down I see Tony coming back to life with the Cowboys for a SB run. CBS probably would not mind, the exposure he would bring to them + exclusive access. Does anyone know now that Romo has taken the CBS job if he will be able to remain in DFW area?

Does anybody else find it odd that he didn't have a testy eyed press conference? That's what makes me question how final this is.

He's done. He's got a job only 5 people have ever held, a cushy salary and has said he didn't want to play anywhere besides Dallas. If he were to come back, the only scenario I see it being is if Dak gets hurt.

Those of you who think Romo will leave CBS scrambling for his replacement in preseason or during the season to take over for a team whose QB went down are off your rockers. He's just been given a great opportunity to be part of the #1 broadcasting team with Jim Nantz and isn't the type of person to leave them high and dry after making the decision to be part of that team. He has a job now that he could be doing for the next 25 plus years, paying him more money than he'll ever make on the field the next year or two risking his health. All you have to do is listen to Romo, he said he's all in with CBS. This was a decision that was well thought out by him. Those of you who think he'll come help bail the Cowboys out if Dak goes down in preseason or during the regular season are DREAMING because he's not about to leave the opportunity he's been given to come back and take over for Dak until Dak is healthy and ready to play again, sending Romo back to the bench as the backup.

Romo may be on good terms with Jerry but not with Garrett and according to reports he distanced himself from his teammates that were all on the Dak bandwagon last season. Jane Slater reported even Jason Witten wanted to stay with Dak and Romo didn't like the way things went down losing his starting job due to injury. Once he was forced to relinquish his starting job in that press conference, saying this was Dak's team I knew without any doubt he wouldn't be back with the Cowboys next season. He said he wanted to play for the Texans but them or no one else wanting to trade for him put him off and helped lead to the decision he made to retire from football. All it takes is a little common sense to figure things out but good luck finding many on this board who use common sense. I said several days ago that Romo being back to playing golf again after a few years away to protect his back was a strong indication he was leaning towards retirement but naturally some took exception to that.

Romo would have little chance of solid success on the field this season not participating in OTA's, training camp and having to learn a new offense during the season. He's played very little football the past 2 seasons and needed a FULL offseason of work with a new team. He knew his best opportunity for success was with the Cowboys and didn't have the desire to go to a team that didn't want to trade for him. The Texans are probably kicking themselves now because I said after they traded Osweiler you would have thought they would have immediately traded for Romo. They waited because they knew he would play for them and they could get him for nothing once he was released but they got the rug pulled out from under them. Now they're in the same boat they've been in, stuck without a solid QB. They look like idiots, giving up a 2nd round pick to have Osweiler taken off their hands and are now stuck with a QB who was given an opportunity last season only to have Osweiler get the job back. They could have had Romo for that second round pick they threw away.

Since Romo was "officially" announced as part of CBS's #1 broadcast team, 10 more posters have voted that he will be playing football in 2017.:laugh:

Well, Romo has said himself that he is not using the "retired" word and he hasn't officially sent in his papers for retirement either

Like I said earlier, I think he is done but if Dak goes out for the season and Dallas is a QB away from going to the playoffs....Romo would listen to Jerry's phone call. Now, if we suck and have no shot at the post-season at that point, Romo stays in the booth.

Romo would not go to a new team and learn on the fly a whole new system but he could come in here and jump right in.......better than Moore or anyone else really.

But,I stand by my original vote.....he is done

Romo said himself he's all in with CBS and no way do I see him saying that only to jump ship and play THIS season leaving CBS scrambling for his replacement. What he does AFTER this season we'll see but he's all in THIS season with CBS. No one will ever convince me he would come back to take over for an injured Dak this season, only to be sent back to the bench after Dak returns. Like I said he may be on good terms with Jerry but not with Garrett and he was released. He's not going to return to football being a replacement or a stopgap.

My vote is to see him try to get onto the PGA Tour

He has a better chance of winning a Super Bowl than that. Getting a PGA tour card is one of the most difficult things to do. He's not going be able to juggle trying to qualify for the PGA tour and broadcasting football. You have to be totally committed.

He's yet to qualify for the US Open. That's a very tough cut to make. Golf takes commitment especially if you have professional aspirations. It's hard competing against players who've dedicated their lives to playing golf.

Like I said, there is only one scenario where he would consider it. He would not be a stop-gap......he would finish out the season then ride into the sunset going back to CBS no matter how it turned out. I am pretty sure there is a clause in there somewhere for this particular example.

CBS can plan for this before hand as well. As for after the 2017 season, I think that is near improbable. It is in an emergency situation in 2017 or bust.

Again, I think his career is finished, just playing devil's advocate

If Romo had any desire whatsoever to be the backup in the event Dak got injured he would have stayed. Don't think for one second Jerry didn't discuss it with him. He wanted no part of it which is why he was released. If he were to leave CBS high and dry scrambling for his replacement so he could re-join the Cowboys during preseason or the regular season he'll never get that job back. Had he not taken CBS's offer it may not have come around again. You have to put yourself in Romo's shoes and what he had to deal with last season. The team was taken away from him and he's moved on. It's going to be up to Jerry and the staff to go out and find a quality backup.

I doubt many here feel comfortable with Kellen Moore who had almost as many int's in one game in 2015 as Dak had all of last season. Moore is one of the QBs who contributed to the disaster we had in 2015. Jerry can't be counting on Romo to bail the team out in 2017 if Dak goes down. We're going to end up stuck if he has that in the back of his mind. Romo is part of another team now, a broadcasting team and his career with the Cowboys is over and done with.

I believe Romo is completely done with football but if he were to get terrible reviews as a broadcaster in 2017 that always leaves the possibility he could come back. I doubt CBS would pull the plug on him after only one season if it doesn't go well but we'll just have to see how Romo adapts to being in the booth. If he did decide to come back to football in 2018 it's going be tough at his age and with the amount of football he's missed since 2014.

Not surprising at all for this board. Even without seeing the names that voted Romo will playing football in 2017 I could have guessed most of them...lmao!
