OFFENSE:
MVP: Julius Jones. On pace for 1,400 yards at 4.3 ypc. Has greatly improved his pass receiving. However, his pass blocking isn’t as strong as it has been. Owens could be, but too many drops and too much drama (although it hasn’t really affected the team, it’s a pain to deal with). Glenn kind of disappears at times. Kyle Kosier would probably win this outright for me if he would eliminate the occasional mental mistake in pass protection.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: Marc Colombo. Never thought he’d be this good. Andre Gurode and Kyle Kosier would be in second.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Bledsoe. He’s not the same player he was in 2005. Fasano would probably be #2. He’s not so much of a disappointment, but I thought he’d get involved in the pass game more. However, he’s getting more involved with Romo as QB.
DEFENSE:
MVP: Ware. I don’t think he’s played a bad game yet. Plays the run very well for a pass rusher. Newman didn’t play very well against the Jags, but other than that he’s done a great job.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: Greg Ellis. Not only has he made the transition rather well, but he seems to have more trouble defending the run for some reason than when he has to drop back in coverage.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: The pass rush in general. But as far as players I’ll go with Chris Canty. He’s not bad, but he’s a guy that’s basically only holding his ground at this point. Doesn’t shed blockers very well and is non-existent in the pass rush.
GAMES:
BEST GAME TO WATCH: Carolina vs. Dallas. The offense looked like a well oiled machine, the defense shut down Steve Smith. Colombo had no issues with Julius Peppers. Delhomme looked genuinely confused.
MOST CRUSHING GAME TO WATCH: Washington vs. Dallas. Sort of weird for me because I fully expected them to lose when Owens dropped the pass. Still, this is a game they gave away.
BILL PARCELLS BEST DECISION: Putting Romo in. Most coaches would never do that this early.
BILL PARCELLS WORST DECISION: Not continuing to run the ball against Philly in the second half when you had a lame duck QB and you were running at will against the Eagles defense. Although if the pass rush still looks lame and he keeps Zimmer around for another year, that will be his worst decision.
SECOND HALF PREDICTIONS:
PREDICTED FINAL RECORD OF THE TEAM: I’ll say 9-7 with us looking at the end of the year and saying that we should’ve won 5 of those games and could’ve won 6 of them. Ware will end up with 9 sacks, Ellis with 8.5 sacks and the team will have 35 sacks by season’s end. Romo’s QB rating will be around an 85. Just miss the playoffs by 1 game to the Falcons and the Eagles who get the last wildcard spots.
PLAYER WHO WILL COME ON THE STRONGEST IN 2nd HALF: Owens. I think his drops will taper off and he’s getting more comfortable with the offense and is very comfortable with Romo. Combine him with Glenn, Witten and Crayton it’s hard to double him.
