TRADED Porter traded to Cowboys (2027/6th round, 2028/2nd round)

Or work out a long-term or short-term deal. His salary for this year (minus signing bonus) is $4 million. He might be willing to take a two-year deal where we had a sizable signing bonus. Let's say we gave him a $10 million bonus, adding a $5 million cap hit, then throw in a non-guaranteed $20 million base for next year that allows us to move on with a $5 million hit if he doesn't work out. If he does work out, we have him under contract but can try to negotiate a long-term deal to bring down the base that we gave him.

Essentially, we'd be giving him $10 million to make sure we have him on the team next year if we want to have him on the team. But because of the way it is structured, he gets a nice incentive to sign this year and he's set to make top 10 corner money next year (without a new deal).

I believe in Malachi for the future.

But Gary and Von gotta go.

So we still need more young talented edges.
We do, but Eze was a second and Lawrence a first, so if they show us something I doubt we use too early of a pick on one. Right now, I'd be planning to spend the first-rounder on one, though, and let God sort them out. Trading for a corner eliminates that possibility at least. And I think the DT acquisitions and S acquisitions limit those possibilities with either early pick as well. Hopefully, Broderick Jones will give us some hope at RT, like Guyton has done at LT, to take that off our draft plate.

Porter is very very good. A second is not a bad price.

Some of y'all just sort of want the team to suck every year so your lonely selves can do a deep dive into the upcoming draft.

Get a girlfriend -- or a boyfriend -- whatever you are into. I support all of it.

They will distract you from this draft obsession.

A second for Porter? That is the best news we could have hoped for.
A 2nd in 2028 and a 6th in 2027?

That is so light.

You always make a deal and assume it is gonna make those picks so late in the round that they lose value.

Steelers are going to get roasted over this -- can't retain the son of a legendary player? Get very little back? Wow.

All those lamenting the trade.

It’s a 2nd in 2028.

Do you know what the odds are of drafting a starting corner the caliber of Porter Jr? It’s probably like 20% at best.

Most second rounders do NOT develop into a player of his caliber.

How many blown second rounders by the cowboys have we seen lately?

I know he's coming here without a new deal, but that doesn't mean they can't work one out. They don't have that option during the season with Pickens because he's on the tag. I think we'll try to get something done with Porter so we can tag Pickens again before working out a long-term deal with him.

Yep, this board complained for years that we weren’t aggressive in acquiring talent. Now that we’ve become hyper aggressive in acquiring talent the last two years, they’re complaining about that too.
Man it’s mind boggling but that tells me these guys aren’t genuine.
