TRADED Porter traded to Cowboys (2027/6th round, 2028/2nd round)

What did they have to do with our terrible draft record?
We have drafted a lot of great players. For some reason you focus on their bad picks. Our team is full of draft picks. A lot of them have been very good.

Like any trade, there are pros and cons:

Pros:
Definitely helps our CB room.
Porter is a good player. Maybe not quite elite but very good.
He easily becomes our best CB.
His size is nice.
He's physical. Sets a tone. With he and Caleb we have 2 potentially really good young players in the secondary.
He's young (26).
I would guess that now Bland and Porter are your starters, and Durant/Revel becomes backups.

Cons:
I think this signals they don't feel that high on Revel anymore, and Carson.
What is the nature of this back injury he claims?
We have to sign him to a new deal, and reportedly he turned down 27 per year from the Steelers and wants 30, so he will be costly.
Given this teams penchant for drafting busts in Round 2 (Kelvin Joseph, Sam Williams, Schoon etc), I'm Ok with getting a proven player for a 2nd rounder. The problem is does he put us over the top this season? And if not, why not just sign him as a FA next season?

I was happy when they got Quinnen Williams ........ how has that turned out?
It's going to be good. You didn't notice how well he played last week. So, now you are saying that Porter will not work out.

NFL body and pedigree. However, should be a Safety but has played CB like a Safety. However because of measurements and athletic ability it is hard to move him from the CB spot. Because of some inflexibility he will not be a so called shut down CB.

I really like the trade. I thought Pittsburgh would have gotten a lot more for a CB who hasn't allowed a TD in coverage since 2023. JPJ is an outstanding corner that can lock up the boundary and allow the defense to focus on 1 side of the field. I was inconsolable, when Dallas picked Mazi Smith over this guy in 2023. 3 years to late with the acquisition, but I will take this upgrade. GP will net a few draft picks when they tag and trade him this off-season. It's easier to replace WR's than CB's in the NFL.

And if not, why not just sign him as a FA next season?
I don't think this front office cares for the "craziness" of free agency, especially when players are highly courted. Just my opinion, but they seem to want to be the side with the upper hand rather than trying to give in to every demand. Outside of certain players, they don't mind dragging their feet to at least get one "win" out of big deals

Porter would of had a handful of instant offers.

Adding one of the best corners in the league is not going in the wrong direction. They still can make another trade before the trade deadline.
It is a Hail Mary attempt at fixing the defense quickly. Yes-they can always try to spend themselves out of trouble. It’s worked so well for Jerry outside of football.

You still didn't say what should they do? In 2026?
I do not have to say what they should do in the here and now lol. That’s for you to decide for yourself. I am laughing at the absurd notion that fans have to accept the inevitable and go along with the captain plotting a course to ram an iceberg.

I have said it before-this website and the group of fans is immeasurably more entertaining than the milk toast product being sold with the star on the helmet. Which is why I come. For what it’s worth, I can definitely see the Cowboys making the postseason in this weak conference and exceptionally weak division.

He’s a shutdown corner who will excel in any defense. His success has nothing to do with Pittsburgh’s other defensive pieces. Kinda get Deion vibes but also great at run defense.
Great at run defense? Porter? The Porter we traded for? Really? You know we trade for his father right?

2028 2nd is pretty much a 2027 3rd or a 2026 4th, not too bad.
Why do people keep saying this like a hard and fast rule. So a 2030 1st is equal to a 2026 5th
It was a loose over-exaggeration to try and value future picks. In reality, a mid 2nd in 2027 is probably closer to a late 2nd in 2028 than it is a 3rd and trades bear this out. But even if you want to agree with the dropping a round when it moves back one year, you can't do it for multiple years
