You know, its amazing how when TO is hurt and he will miss time its like the world is coming to an end. "He isnt going to be ready for the season" is what they say. Now all im hearing out of Commanders fans is "He has a whole month to get ready" after a much more serious injury. Hypocrits.

The only problem with separations and dislocations is sometmes the ligaments do not tighten back up on their own and leaves you more prone to dislocations and separations. In hgigh school I had a mild separation and it never healed right the arm would slide in and out of socket pretty much pain free, until one day when I was playing b-ball and went up to block a shot and I popped it reall good. I had dilsocated the shoulder and separated it., even 3 months later the shoulder wasn't the same had to have surgery to shorten all the ligaments inthe shoulder. Joined the army tweaed the shoulder again and basicly the shoulder is the same it was before the surgery. Shoulder injuries to people in jobs that require the shoulder to be fine usually require longer rehabs because muscle fatigue can cause the weakening of the shoulder and reoccurance of injury.

Priceless conversation. Portis was clearly not happy and was making a point with his comment.

Dollar Bill got jacked up (and he did it to himself). Maybe he can dress up like a doctor and give himself a diagnosis.

I've read tons and tons of speculation, and I've read plenty of medical chitter chatter.

What it looks like its going to come down to is Portis not playing for the rest of the preseason, but he should easily be ready in time for Week 1.

With the run blocking the Skins showed us last night, that's probably for the best... I mean, the Cowboys' run blocking was pretty putrid, 33 carries for 100 yards, but the Skins' was downright impotent, with 24 carries for 30 yards...

Of course, y'all got a long look at your backup offensive linemen last night, not so much your starters... but that would tend to verify what I've been saying all along, that the Skins' backup offensive linemen are pretty bad...

Have some class.

Oh please.

Portis said something stupid. He said something that, at first glance, makes his coach look bad. If any Cowboy did that there would be loads of crap about it today. Portis says it, and "he was just frustrated because he had just been injured."

Give me a break. It has nothing to do with his injury, it has to do with him being a moron. He and Shockey apparently went through the same U of M whiny ***** seminar.

For most guys? 2 weeks

For a RB who takes hits every down on his shoulders? A month or so

Dislocations arent hard to fix, but the sweeling and soreness just wont go away

I had a partially dislocated sholder 10 years ago and I can still feel it sometimes.

It doesn't sound quite right to me - most shoulder separations can't be "popped back", but dkislocations can be.

The shoulder is a very complicated complex of 4 joints. One of those is where the collar bone meets the shoulder blade (AC joint) - this is where shoulder separations occur. Another one is where the arm meets its socket in the shoulder blade (glenohumeral joint) - this is where dislocations occur.

If it is really true that his shoulder was put back in place then this is most likely a shoulder dislocation which is a much more serious injury in the long run than a shoulder separation. Once a shoulder has been dislocated, there is a strong tendency for it to recur without surgery. For a guy like Portis, the risk of recurrence would be close to 100%.

The other issue with shoulder dislocations is they are frequently accompanied by other injuries - small fractures of bone, nerve injuries, blood vessel injuries, capsule injuries, ligament injuries, tendor injuries ....

This is pretty much exactly right. I had the same injury on each of my shoulders, I needed surgery to fix them both. I was playing WR so I didn't get the same amout of Contact a RB gets and I still Dislocated them 8 times each during the course of a season.

wouldnt you be a little frustrated injurying yourself on the first drive of the first preseason game? who cares, people say stupid stuff when angry, and this is an example of it, get over it.

Joey Galloway ripped up his knee in garbage time of a blowout loss in the Pickle Juice game.

Did he rip Dave Campo for having him in there? No.

This is football, injuries happen. It is certainly unfortunate, but even if one preseason game were on the schedule, he could have been injured. You can be injured in any game, any down, doing practically anything. That is just the nature of the game, whether you play 4 preseason games or none.

Portis needs to get over it. Besides, he didn't have to try to take Ratliff's head off on the tackle. It was his technique in making that tackle that lead to his shoulder being driven in the turf.

If I were a Commander fan, I would spend less time defending a complete imbecile like Portis and more time defending my head coach, who is not to blame.

I actually have disclocated shoulders quite often when playing basketball, of all sports. It happens so often, in fact, I can actually put it back in myself, hurts like hell tho. He'll actually be fine in 2 weeks, but if the Skins are smart, they rest him up for Week 1.

Sounds like the star player and head coach are on different pages here. I wouldn't be surprised if either Portis or Gibbs quits before the season opener.

I think you are already right about the 100%. Apparently he had a similar injury in H.S.

I dislocated my shoulder about 13 years ago in a car accident. You really have to be a tough dude to deal with something like that (although mine apparently was more severe than Portis') It was the most painful think I ever dealt with to the point where it hurt to breathe at time. The doctors told me that because I liked playing sports like hockey, lacrosse, and basketball that I'd better be very careful since I was extremely likely to dislocate it again. I still have some pretty tough shoulder and neck problems to which my chiropractor is convinced it was due to my past shoulder dislocation.

Well, since we're sharing dislocated shoulder stories.

I had my shoulder dislocated during a karate match. Big joker hit me right up under my armpit and dislocated my shoulder.

Mine was a complete tear because when the doctor rolled it back in place, it didn't hurt. I was told if it was still attached to the tendons, it wouldn't have been as painless.

I had to keep my arm immobilized for at least three weeks, maybe more so the scar tissue could heal around the bone.

I doubt he's going to be back if he had a severe tear like mine. (Don't know what you'd call it)

But if it just popped out, then he might be back earlier.

By the way, didn't Emmitt Smith suffer a separated shoulder during the 93 Giants game?

Didn't he come back like in two weeks?
