Even if Portis doesn't play, TJ Duckett is more than capable of filling in for him. We can't ignore that it will be a big game for him if he starts, since he hasn't started in a year or two.

the loss of springs has a far bigger impact on the game anyway...you guys basically shut down portis last year and look what happened...

And, that was "last year"...

I wonder what will happen this year?

yeah, but trying to stop Portis made us give up things in other places.

That's an interesting theory, except that BP's presss conference occurred before the Gibbs' announcement.

its not like the skins were throwing all over the place in last years game, the offense was completely shut down until those 2 plays at the end

all i am saying is the loss of springs will have a far bigger impact than the loss of portis because portis was a non factor and your receivers are FAR superior to Minnesota's (if Bledsoe can get them the ball)...actually, I could see Duckett matching up better against your D because of his size, maybe that is why Gibbs is sitting portis, he would probably get pretty beat up even more by your physical D

This is the ultimate mind game by Gibbs. Not that he is BSing about Portis, but now they are in a win/win situation. I think that Gibbs has a feeling that they will probably not beat Dallas at home, so he says ok, Portis is out. Now, if they win, what a masterful job of coaching. If they lose, well, no Portis, Springs, etc, etc. Then the mind games begin for the next game. Assuming everyone is healthy for them, and it being at home, they have all the advantages to get them ready to beat the boys. I think he is playing for the second half of the season just like he did last year. Smart coach that Gibbs, smart coach.

Duckett and Portis aren't in the same universe.

Talent aside (and the gulf is wide), I worry more about a durable finesse back like Portis against our big front 7. Ducket's game is overpowering defenders, and that is going to be problem for him against 300 lb DEs and 250-270lb LBs.

Duckett is horribly mismatched against our front 7, even before you add in his mediocrity.

No, he's a dumb-arse for playing him against Minny last week to the point that he's (alledgedly) out for this week. THis game is so much more important from a division and morale standpoint.

He's trying to salvage the move here, but if he was a smart, smart coach Portis would not have sniffed the field last week.

According to Commanders.com.

I think he'll still be activated and play, but clearly he's not going to carry much of the workload.

Can you say smokescreen?

Well, I guess those 2 last plays are the ones that stick in your mind. It will be a tough game, cause neither team wants to be 0-2. It will be tough no matter who plays, as long as they are skins and boys.

dont be decieved by gibbs' games... Even though portis didnt practice the last 3 days, he has still been doing work in the weight room and such.

Bubby Tyer, head of medicine, said that there was no further damage done to the arm in the last game.

I, personally think that he will play, and that he will play a lot, but that is just me. I think that this is another one of gibbs' games he is trying to play like he did last week before portis let the "secret" out.

I totally agree...and at some point Gibbs needs fined for these little games because its also flat out lying. I had a lot of respect for Gibbs before he came back. I guess I didn't realize back then what a whiny, deceitful, little B**** he was. And at no time is he worse than when he plays the Cowboys.
I fully expect Portis to play.
I think Portis is still dinged up and I said right after it happened, as did a lot of other folks here, that this injury very well could linger long into the season, esp if they don't keep him out long enough to fully heal up. I don't think its going to be fully healed up until he sits for at least several weeks in a row, which frankly the Skins can't afford to do or else their season will be over before he comes back.

I think we need to hit Portis early and hard. I saw a few plays on Monday where the ball would turn over/almost come loose. Get a few pops into that shoulder and we'll see how he feels. Portis, even being injured, can still be a factor, he's a great player. We need to get his mind off the game and more on his shoulder. From first hand experience, when you've got a shoulder injury and you're a RB, in the back of your mind you're thinking of getting hit hard on that shoulder. As the announcers pointed out, notice how he was making an effort to fall onto his other shoulder? And I'm not afraid of Duckett, let's remember we have a huge defensive line as well as pretty damn large linebackers. We can handle someone like him.

And.. Ladell Betts? Please....
