How about this. I'll give Roy an 9 and whoever is your free safety a 4 since you dont "have a FS". Ill give Taylor an 8.5 and Archuleta a 6.5. Do the math. We have the better safety duo. haha

No question AA is better here. But last years stats aren't that different, considering one is playing in coverage, and the other is always up at the line of scrimmage. The big question will be "what happens when he changes positions?"

Williams, Glenn Reflect On Two TD Catches

Rob Phillips
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer
September 21, 2005 6:32 PM

IRVING, Texas - Cowboys safety Roy Williams took the blame for Santana Moss's now-infamous pair of touchdown catches after Monday's shocking 14-13 loss to Washington.

But on Wednesday, Williams grew defensive about his role on the two plays Moss beat cornerback Aaron Glenn for touchdowns of 39 and 70 yards in the final four minutes to quickly erase the Cowboys' 13-point lead.

"They called two plays against the coverage that honestly put me in a bind where I'm basically on two people at one time," Williams said. "So as far as you talking about them beating me on two plays, you need to know the coverage before you say I got beat on those two plays. You don't know the coverage."

Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells also defended Williams, who has been criticized for not getting back in coverage to help Glenn sooner.

"It wasn't really his play," Parcells said, especially in reference to the 39-yarder when the Commanders lined up a receiver in the slot inside of Moss.

Glenn, meanwhile, admitted he played aggressively on the second pass to Moss, which gave Washington a one-point lead with 2:44 left.

"I was on top of the route and I made a very bad decision to go for the interception," said Glenn, who ironically made the game-saving pass breakup against the Chargers one week earlier. "That's just my mindset. Any time the ball is in the air I'm going to try to go for the ball. I think I touched the ball or touched his hand, one of the two. I know I was close to the ball, and I just ended up missing it."

Like Parcells, Williams answered questions about Monday's loss but insisted the team has already shifted its focus to Sunday's game at San Francisco.

"Honestly those weren't my plays, but yeah, I took it upon myself to say that's my fault," Williams said. "I'm always anxious to get back on the field. The whole secondary wants to get back on the field and try to repeat the performance that we did Monday night, but for all four quarters."

it still begs the question- if RW wasnt responsible for moss, why is moss not double covered with either a 13 or 6 point lead?????

i cant believe a DC would call for a coverage that leaves the teams only real deep threat one on one in this situation.

now I know you're a hack, since Aaron Glenn was responsible on both plays

Santana ran by the corner and then by Roy (who had a good jump on the play). Watch the replay, hack!

Dallas may not have a FS, but they have 1 Pro Bowler among their safeties while I count nil between your All-Star duo of Archuleta and Taylor...what a homerific troll

Taylor should be in the pro bowl as well as other Commanders defensive players. How does a top 9 defense not have any pro bowlers?!

The selection method is severely flawed.

Dawkins couldn't carry Sean's jock. Give me a break and watch a few Commanders games and tell me that Dawkins is superior.

Hey buddy, you can't compare stats between a SS and a FS! They play different positions and have completely different roles, especially with the different approaches these two defenses take.

Are you sure you watched the whole game Summer? You sure you werent one of those thousands of fans that went to bed early thinking the cowboys had the game in the bag?? ha

its so funny how cowboys fans refuse to give williams any kind of blame at all on those plays. Ok so maybe he wasnt actually covering moss one on one but he's supposed to make sure they dont get beat deep. Some of the stuff Bill said was mostly just to protect his pro bowl safety. No coach wants to call out his star player after they blow a nationally televised game, especially since it was the skins

Absolutely right. That is what a SAFETY is supposed to do in cover 2, right? Guard the deep ball on his side of the field.

And as was stated in the quotes from Bill and Roy, the Commanders lined a reciever in the slot..... hhmmm.... why would they do that? Maybe to hold the safety long enough for a man to get open? And I do believe that they were playing a Man Over 2, not a cover two. That's where Glenn is man to man and Roy has HELP over the top. When there is a man in the slot though, Glenn should've realized that his help wouldn't be there because of other responsibilities. The Skins had the perfect play call, vs. a poorly called defense, with that personell on the field.

The only group I've seen them saying they are better at that I dont agree with is DL and, occasionally, WR

Terry Glenn is better than Brandon Liyod and Antwaan Randle El, that is not debateable. Patrick Crayton and Liyod are roughly the same in terms of skill. Randle El is a jack of all trades but isnt a great WR.

Get off the moonshine. Crayton is nowhere near LLoyd's level, statistically or otherwise.

If you're not taking stats into the equation, then there is no way of comparing the two players, since "they play different positions." So stop coming on here trying to convince the world that ST is better than Roy. Compare him to Davis instead, then you'll have no arguement and you'll finally feel that ST IS better than someone in the NFL.

Bledsoe was a stud until flo went down. Brunnell's mobility is so minute compared to his earlier years it isn't even a advantage, more like a tallest midget syndrom

So it wasn't an advantage when he scrambled on 4th and 20 something for a first down. Just because his mobility has declined doesn't mean he's another Bledsoe in the pocket.

No way is this a draw, Witten is a bonafide stud TE, Cooley is an HB (is he a good blocker at all?) who has nice hands and a knack for the endzone.

Cooley was an average blocker his rookie season, improved drastically last season. If Witten is better than Cooley, it isn't by much.

You mean the same crappy offense that was nonexistant until week 8 or so.

If I remember correctly, you all lost four in a row.......you looked terrible.

If anything your offense started clicking when you began the soft part of your schedule and ran into the rest of the NFC East that was banged up pretty bad.

You all were the only NFC East team to escape the injury bug last year.

We lost a starting OL for the season, admittingly, near the end. For half of the season, we were using a practice squad reciever as our #3 because Thrash and Patten couldn't stay healthy. Betts couldn't stay healthy to spell Portis when he was tired. Portis played with two severly bruised shoulders that most players who've elected to sit out of games, for that whole last 5 games. Carlos Rogers missed a bunch of games. Springs played through a hamstring injury and then a groin injury for 1/3 of the season. Sala'vea missed games as well. Injuries are never an excuse. Your reserves either step up to plate or they don't.

All through that post you make excuses for the Commanders success.

On the second TD If Glenn played the man instead of rying for the INT the ball wouldnt have been completed

I wish I had a video of that play. Glenn was beat FROM THE START, Moss actually had to slow a little and wait for the ball to come down. This allowed Glenn to be close enough so he could be a part of my icon. :laugh2:
