Start Rico Gathers to open up the passing game downfield and give Dak an option, because he doesn’t throw that well from the pocket outside the hashes.

Ironic that people complain about Dez’s speed say nothing about Witten... at
least Dez can catch jump balls and go over the top as well as break tackles..

Yeah, but Dez isn't really even good with jump balls anymore. I can understand speed, etc, but his hands suck now too.

He doesn’t drop the slants and across the middle and he catches Dak’s feet passes on screens.. Dak doesn’t throw a good deep ball..

The numbers supported it for TWIll last year as well..

New coaching staff, which has been repeated 1000 times. But on top of that, I love Witten's accomplishments for this organization, but it's clear he's holding the team back. If we had a TE that had a few more steps and didnt' go down at first contact, a lot of those 4th and 1s would be 1st downs instead. Dak likes to throw to TEs and sharp route runners with glue hands. They took beasley away and nobody fears Witten anymore. They'll play off of him and let him catch a yard or two behind the sticks because they know that once he gets hit, he's going down and there goes 4th and 1.

People are still fixated on the fact that Bellichek said years ago that Witten was the primary threat in the passing game. Not anymore...

Other teams know Dak looks at Witten as a security blanket and has a tendency to go to him. What better way to get the Cowboys off the field than let Witten catch the ball 2 yards behind the sticks and then run up and hit him. I honestly don't know what's wrong with Rico Gathers, but he'd be an excellent weapon on 3rd and 5. He's not going down at first contact.

I agree..

Rico is now eligible to play and it makes no sense other than appeasing Witten. Linehan puts him in one-on-one drills and he’s pretty much unstoppable from what I read, so I seriously think Linehan and Dak, and even Dez are being limited by the fact that Witten is no threat and safeties deep don’t bother with no threat down the middle. They can easily shift to Dez’s or TWill’s side..

I think there may be some truth in the claims by Bennett (though he backed off in his later years) that Witten was kind of like that..

fire the coaching staff.

i see 2 personnel options, but you cannot fix everything with a draft.

1. FA defense fixes while draft offensive skill players high. this could sign 2 LBs, 1tech while draft picks wr, rb, ot and G. a 1st round wr stretches the field, while a 2nd/3rd round RB make the team competitive if zeke is suspended or hurt. a 2nd/3rd round ot is needed due to tsmith issues. with many picks, use them to move higher to get what is needed if possible.

2. draft LB/1tech high 1st and 2nd round, and try to get wr and rb in 3rd and 4th round. sign a respectable ot in fa.

Just like the current coaching staff you will fail. We need to look at another quality Guard and a swing tackle.

This is easy:
1. WR & LB need to be top priority in draft/FA.
2. Likely need change at HC (unlikely this happens)
3. Add QB competition in camp (real competition not token gestures)
4. Sign back-up offensive swing tackle.
5. Add rookie RB
6. Let Gathers compete for more playing time.

yes and the 1-tech, and the rookie RB needs to be high end too.

1. fire coaching staff
2. Draft or sign a WR with speed (preferably one that run great routes as well).
3. Draft or sign a serious run stopping DT
4. Draft or sign a RT and move Collins back to LG
5. fire coaching staff

You forgot hire a real GM that is dedicated to make the team better instead of interests not the Cowboys.

Fire the coaches I agree with but this mess can absolutely be fixed with one off season as long as the GM is aggressive in FA and draft

We have our QB and our RB
Biggest needs are:

Starters at:
1T DT
MLB
FS
WR
PR/KR

Depth at:
LB
TE (future starter)
OL

These can absolutely be done in 1 off season

I think under a different Offensive scheme, the back RBs we have now would be fine. I wouldn't waste a draft pick on RB

must have a high end backup RB as our offense and dak require it to be dominant.

What if the team went to a more West Coast offense, with a power running game?
