CB Josh Thomas to Pittsburgh for QB Landry Jones.

also I have a friend of a friend who hangs with petty occasionally and Petty and Fitzpatrick are joined at the hip I guess. So I can't imagine pettty going anywhere.

There has been ZERO proof that any QB other than Romo can have any success here. I don't see the point in throwing away yet another draft pick for a QB, I'd rather waste money than draft picks.

What about the Taylor Heinicke kid at Minnesota?

My first choice and I mentioned him yesterday. Turns out he severed a tendon in his foot kicking in the door to his apartment after getting locked out. He is out for 2-3 months.

With the going rate for QB's with "potential" hitting FA, it's probably cheaper (cost+pick value) to draft or trade for one(on ELC) than spend money in FA for a potential starter. imo

Edit read your post wrong.

For just a backup, I agree

Nail on the head! Let Prescott get his snaps and wait for the fruit to fall from the tree come drop time and pick the best one.

There is a real advantage to having a guy go through camp. Not a ton of time for reps and learning once the season starts

I'm starting to think they should just go with Romo and Dak with Showers or someone else on the practice squad. If Romo goes down for a few games the season will not be lost. If he goes down for a long period, then we get to see what we have in Dak. If he shows promise, we don't have to draft a QB high next year. If he bombs, then we will have a high pick and can get a QB and will still have Dak to develop as a backup.

I'm not opposed to trading Leary for a backup QB, and really don't understand why others are.

Yes, I know that Leary is starting quality, but he's not a starter here and it's clear he's not going to bring us a starting player in a trade. He's here for one year as a backup and then we get nothing for him. I value him as a backup, but I also value having a quality backup QB.

I don't like damaging our depth, but if it fixes our depth at QB, I think it's worth the trade-off.

The thing about this that really bothers me is this is affecting the rest of the young players. How do the young rb's, wr, and TE develop when the qb running the offense doesn't know what he is doing. We already have a situation on the second offensive line where it is going to cost those developing players adding a young qb to that is making the problem worse.

We have seen this for 3 years now in the preseason, the second offensive units are unable to accomplish anything because of the line and qb play.

didnt Kitna have some a little success? Orton did ok...the problem here is, our incompetent HC doesn't adjust his playbook to the strengths of the new QB.

Out of this list the guy you probably could get right now for a 7th rd pick is Geno Smith. Not much out there at this point.

Orton played one game and lost.

The kitna walk down memory lane here is always interesting to me. The guy was terrible against NY, GB, Jax and ARI in 10. He played well against @Ny, Indy, Detroit and Washington and was okay against New Orleans. The game he came in against sf in 11 he was pretty mediocre also, turned the ball over immediately and then hit austin for 6.

People need to stop blaming the stuff and focus on the player. If we had a good veteran backup qb I would imagine he would play well. They are almost impossible to find because starters almost impossible to find.
