There has been ZERO proof that any QB other than Romo can have any success here. I don't see the point in throwing away yet another draft pick for a QB, I'd rather waste money than draft picks.

Fair point but aside from Kitna have any of our back ups been good enough to win? I agree the coaching was a huge problem last year but Im not sure the back ups weren't.

well if the price is too high...we can just wait for cuts...Tyler Bray or Aaron Murray from KC will soon be available along with a few others from my list.

But then you get a guy that doesnt know the offense and doesnt have camp amd preseason to learn it

The thing about this that really bothers me is this is affecting the rest of the young players. How do the young rb's, wr, and TE develop when the qb running the offense doesn't know what he is doing. We already have a situation on the second offensive line where it is going to cost those developing players adding a young qb to that is making the problem worse.

We have seen this for 3 years now in the preseason, the second offensive units are unable to accomplish anything because of the line and qb play.
how many reps is the backup qb going to get? romo isn't hurt...wait and save and get the best vet who gets dropped

They get a ton. The backup plays the majority of the preseason.
IMO the preseason should be Romo for a series or two in the first preseason games, the backup for the rest of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters and dak for the fourth....sans the third game where romo should get a half.

Not having a real backup is a huge problem before you even enter Romo getting injured into the equation.

Nail on the head! Let Prescott get his snaps and wait for the fruit to fall from the tree come drop time and pick the best one.

Only problem is we need our back up QB to get as much time to get acquainted with not only the offensive system but his teammates as well.

its not a huge problem in the preseason when romo is healthy if they are pursuing a vet

if romo was hurt i would agree give those reps to Dak, sign a vet who can pick up the system when he gets here...people are acting like romo is hurt he isnt therefore trading any pick or player just to get someone in here just doesnt make sense to me..

I'm starting to think they should just go with Romo and Dak with Showers or someone else on the practice squad. If Romo goes down for a few games the season will not be lost. If he goes down for a long period, then we get to see what we have in Dak. If he shows promise, we don't have to draft a QB high next year. If he bombs, then we will have a high pick and can get a QB and will still have Dak to develop as a backup.
Agree.

What is with this team anyway?

We draft Dak and we are not going to do what it takes to get him ready?

Give me a break.

This is where Garrett needs to show his QB knowledge and go to work getting him ready.

Same with Linehan.

Earn those paychecks, boys.

Thats why we pay you the big bucks, fellas.

Stay ready and you don't have to get ready. Should be every NFL team's motto.

Saw this trade on a Cowboys Twitter feed.

We trade Leary and a late-round draft pick to the Skins for Colt McCoy.

Thoughts?

I'm not opposed to trading Leary for a backup QB, and really don't understand why others are.

Yes, I know that Leary is starting quality, but he's not a starter here and it's clear he's not going to bring us a starting player in a trade. He's here for one year as a backup and then we get nothing for him. I value him as a backup, but I also value having a quality backup QB.

I don't like damaging our depth, but if it fixes our depth at QB, I think it's worth the trade-off.
With the number of injuries happening right now, I'd keep Leary.
