Possible solution to Glenn issue? - Chargers cut WR Eric Parker

Not to mention, he sucks.
And also not to mention, he's proven himself to be a decent receiver who's produced more than any WR we have on the roster save Owens and Glenn.

He's no star, but he's a decent football player who's probably better than most of our backups, given that none of them have really yet to accomplish anything.

What are you, president of the Eric Parker fan club? I'm sorry, who do the Chargers have at receiver that allows them to cut this "decent football player?" Yeah, that's what I thought. Use your head.

is he anything more than a 4th or 5th WR himself? If the answer is no (and it is) then why bring him here...in 3 of his 5yrs in the league his longest play from scrimmage was no more than 38yds...he scored no tds last yr and only 3 in 2006...

Yeah, that's what we need! Another "9 toad" player on the team!!:laugh2:

Galloway would have a field day with this guy!!

I couldn't find much beyond scout.com having one small blurb about "lacks deep speed". So take it for what it's worth (not much).

That is a crazy comparision. Parker is the anti-Crayton. Parker is fast, has hands of stone & keeps his mouth shut.

Ahh, if you're a reciever and have "hands of stone", you should keep your mouth shut... Catching the ball consistently is a recievers primary job, right!!!

Eric Parker was a decent player when Wade was in San Diego. Does anyone think we will take a look at him? Personally, I think I would rather see our youth develop, but since he was a Wade guy, then I guess it's possible we will kick the tires.

CHARGERS CUT PARKER

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 23, 2008, 2:22 p.m.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the San Diego Chargers have released wide receiver Eric Parker.
Parker started 12 games for the Chargers in 2006 and caught 48 passes for 659 yards, but in 2007 he missed the entire season with a toe injury. The Chargers had indicated that they were not planning to bring him back this season, so it’s no surprise that he was released just before veterans are to report for training camp.
The 29-year-old Parker, who has spent his entire six-year career in San Diego, still wants to play somewhere this season. There has been speculation that the Browns could be interested in acquiring Parker, although it’s unlikely that any team would give him the $1.85 million salary he would have been due this season with the Chargers.

ive read this guy cant even run yet...if we have to go with a gimp id stay with glenn...imo

It’s been frequently said that no Charger works harder than wide receiver Eric Parker. In the last year and a half, the seven-year veteran has had his work ethic put to the test. In the spring of 2007, Parker experienced some pain in his foot that limited his participation in the on-field portion of the Chargers’ offseason program. Once training camp arrived, the foot was still hurting so Parker opted to have surgery.

The recovery time was originally estimated at roughly 10 weeks, but midway through the season his foot still wasn’t healing so the Chargers placed him on the “Reserve-Injured” list, thus ending his 2007 campaign. The injury stalled his season, but it didn’t kill his drive. Parker has quietly spent hours on end at Chargers Park rehabbing the foot and preparing to get back on the field in 2008.

A healthy Parker will provide a huge weapon to what is already an impressive group of wide receivers. During Philip Rivers’ first season as a starter, Parker earned the trust of the young quarterback by making clutch catches when his team needed them most. Nearly 73 percent of his catches (35 of 48) resulted in first downs and more than a third (19 of 48) came on third down plays. For his career, 129 of his 187 career catches (69 percent) have resulted in first downs.

Parker is a quiet leader who is lauded by his teammates for his toughness, quickness and precise route running. In 2006, Parker led all Chargers wide receivers with 48 receptions for 659 yards.

Wow!!! This is a big difference from what the other threads are saying about him..

Jerry can smell the oppotunity this year. Can you imagine what a championship season would do for the new stadium. He's also already paid out every roster bonus on Glenn's deal in the past. He'll crack and rescend the settlement contingency waiver adn Glenn will be in campon Friday.

I suspect he'd probably be the #3 WR if healthy. Some people have delusions about Hurd, Austin and Stanback.

I guess you're one of them.

In other words, you think Jerry Jones is a complete idiot.

Hope you're wrong.

The point is that Terry Glenn is no longer in Terry Glenn's league either.

Do we all get to just make stuff up, or just you?

Terry Glenn is twice as fast as he used to be, and he's virtually indestructible. And he's got a third hand.

I love how people throw out conclusions like this.

No, I wasn't saying Jerry is an idiot. The Cowboys paid significant roster bonuses for Glenn at 3 million a pop. Why squander away a good #2 over 1.2 million?

What's 'made up' about it?

The guys missed all of last season with a degenerative knee condition - that means one that doesn't get better for those who apparently don't know.

And he was a complete non-factor in the games he did play.

He couldn't pass the team's end of season physical and still can't - a year later!

Nothing 'made up' there, just the cold, hard facts the glee club chooses to ignore.
